I posted the very early instrumental drum machine demo of this tune about 4 months ago. This is the completed songwriting demo. Very minimalist approach (for me) - one guitar left, one guitar right, bass, 3 drum mics, and one vocal track. All the solos are placeholders to flesh out the demo.

All of the guitar tracks were recorded with a Miracle Man bridge pickup in a solid maple super strat guitar into a Roland VG-88. Rhythm and melody guitars are bone dry with a bit of 3k added in mixing. Lead guitars have a bit of Lexicon verb and some 4k added in mixing.

Nice tone. Very smooth. Gotta love maple bodies. The right pickup makes them sing so well.

The mix leaves a lot to be desired on the drums, but that's understandable with three mics, and I'm sure you knew that.

I dig the song, not a huge fan of the tone, but killer songwriting and melodies.

That was really sweet. The songwriting was superb, but you might want to turn the rhythm guitars up a notch, or layer another rhythm track over that. I wasn't too keen on the drum sounds either. It's only a demo though, so rock on!

You kinda lost me after 3:55. However, very, very nice melodies on this one!

I'm just gonna take some notes as I run through the song.

Great intro. I'm already seduced.

Don't lose your vocalist...superb voice.

You've established some great melodies in there. Very musical. Great vocal/guitar harmonization.

The guitar solo seemed like it was tossed in there because of the (IMO) poor transition.

Nice riff following the end of the solo. \m/

That progressive melody at 5:14 seems unnecessary. It doesn't really add to the song. In fact, I think it takes away from the song because it doesn't seem to follow the course the song has carved.

Love the reprise of that EPIC melody, that "dunnnn dunnnn dun dun dun dun dunnnn dunnnn".

Solid ending. Around the middle, I was a little worried...but by the end, I feel satisfied.

I'm giving it a second listen now. I've realized that it seems like your vocalist is holding back a wee bit in some parts. You know, like if she were to put out just a little more (no pun intended), it'd be spot on and a hell of a lot more powerful.

God, I love that "dunnnn dunnnn dun dun dun dun dunnnn dunnnn".

Same feelings about the middle section. Again, nice closure.

FINAL REPORT...Really great song. A couple flaws in the middle are enough to deprive the song of it's massive potential, IMO. With a few touchups, I think that could be spine-chilling.

Given that this is a demo.....and it'll be "tidied up" when you guys record the new CD, I'm digging it! Nice tones and the whole general vibe of the song is fantastic

I like some of the arpeggios (sp?) at 3:41. It sounded damn good for a demo. What is your label going to say about an 8 minute song? Honestly, I kept thinking I'd like it better if it was 2 minutes shorter. I have a hard time keeping interested in long songs so that is normal. I liked the vocals a lot. :beerchug:

RGN, the songs kind of write themselves. Our first album has two +8 minute tracks, as well as a +7 minute one. A whole album of 9 minute songs would not be a good move for my style, but the occasional epic isn't frowned upon. Besides that, I would never let anyone outside the band dictate how long or short a song should be.

Cool song! Very Maiden-like IMO, and the vocalist adds a good touch to the whole vibe. It's a demo, so we know it will kick ass when it's finished!! Keep up the good work.. oh and how do you get that HUGE pinch harmonic to sustain for so long at 0:38??? I couldn't believe you just let it ring and scream for so long!
