Once Peej gives it the go-ahead, we talk about lyrics and I start writing the song to a more finite structure. Then Peej will go over it with a fine-toothed comb. There may or may not be some minor changes after that point, but there usually are. It's also at this point when some of the Rush-isms appear; the odd time bridges, key changes, etc.
... after that, I'm ready to record the full version of the song. The mp3 goes to the band, and we start rehearsals. From original idea to finished demo and band rehearsals has taken 4-5 weeks at the shortest, and over a year in the case of one song.
Yes, but they are just what I call the riff demos. That is all the riffs laid out, but not in any particular sequence.
