New Vox AC-15

Re: New Vox AC-15

I wondered how long it would be until somebody saw these...a local shop actually already has one...I haven't tried it yet but Im gonna give it (and their AC-30 head) a look this weekend!

Re: New Vox AC-15

Whats the construction like on these? I assume it is a printed circuit board but does anyone know whether the tube sockets are mounted on the board? And the pots? Any thoughts?

Re: New Vox AC-15

I'd take a matchless lightning any day over one of these. It's the same chinese import stuff as the CC line.

Re: New Vox AC-15

im interested in tryin one of these out as well. although i guess its built the same as the Ac30CCs? i could never justify spending that amount of cash on those amps, cause i feel like it could break down at any time, no matter how good it sounds, and they do sound good.

Re: New Vox AC-15

I think if money is an issue I'd be lookin at those EL84 crate amps or finding a 15w Gibson Goldtone before the Vox....hell...for that matter the high end Valvetronixes do a damn good job too from what I can tell.

Those chinese all tube ones do sound really good, but they seem extremely hit or miss for reliability (though arguably thats an issue that has plagued Vox since their inception)

Re: New Vox AC-15

That's really cool a mint AC 15 showed up today on eBay and I am really gassin for it. The guy put a $1200 bin price on his. I have been a litlle scared of the reliability issues that I have heard the CCs experiencing as well. The CCs seem to feel really cheaply made too. Might be worth a go though!

Re: New Vox AC-15

I think Vox has a 5 year warrantee, so if you bought one, you could sell it before 5 years, and any repairs would be covered. By then, they'll probably have a Valvetronix II, and you'd want that one anyway.

Re: New Vox AC-15

I don't know a thing about this new AC15 but I did have a newer printed circuit board AC30 with a pair of Celestion Alnico Blue 12's for a while and it was one of the best sounding amps I've ever owned and I had zero problems with reliability.

I sold it because it was to loud and to heavy...but that Vox AC30 got me jonesing for those Vox tones and led me to the Matchless amps I now play through and love so much.

Re: New Vox AC-15

Joe..agreed..they have a good warrantee!...but a couple folks I know who had to send their Valvetronixes back had a devil of a time getting them serviced/repaired through Korg or whomever is the american distributor..I'm talking a couple months.

hmmmm..... VT 2? :laugh2:

Re: New Vox AC-15

I've got a Vox AC30CC and man it's a killer! Absolutely amazing tone and definitely feels electronically reliable. I've been gigging it pretty hard (and it's starting to show), but it's still kickin as good as the day I got it. I definitely feel confident in it's abilities to hold up! but I'm also with Lew..this thing is HEAVY! (>75 lbs. at least)

Re: New Vox AC-15

I'm a fan of the Vox tones, always have been. I'm hesitant to shell out the cash on these new CCs regardless of the great sound. I don't need the headache when these things crap out, which is a genuine concern.

For my next amp, I'm either going to go with a Gibson GA20RVT or a Budda Superdrive 18 Watt. I may still go for the AC15CC but there's no way I'm taking it sight unseen.

I'm with Lew on this one. I've got an AC-30 RI and plan on keeping it for a looooooong time. Helps me build up my lats, too.

Re: New Vox AC-15

I'm not sure if the upgraded speaker sound is worth the $300 since I never had a chance to play through greenbacks, just the blue alnicos. It wasn't an issue anyway since GC sold it to me for $400 off their price tag simply because the Tolex on the corners was ripped. I can tell you that the sound of those speakers makes me forget about the look of the Tolex.

I suppose if I wanted I could take some of the cash I saved and use it to have the amp re-Tolexed.

Could the one with the upgraded speaker REALLY be worth $300 more?

honestly, i think i liked the one with the vox speakers (wharfedale made, i think?) more than the celestion blues. I guess its just preference. I certainly couldnt hear that much of a difference, but what do i know :smack:

Re: New Vox AC-15

That Alnico Blues is such an expensive speaker! I guess they consider it a part of the Vox sound, but honestly, I'd probably want a Vintage 30 anyway.
It gives it a better low end and mids. The Blues are sweet, but may not handle a LP neck pickup as well as a more durable higher wattage Celestion.
I'd just buy the cheaper versions, and spend the extra money on different speakers for it.
