i was thinking of gettin a wah cause i was using an auto wah for aome time and i would like to feel more expressive an get more control of the sound. So.. i was thinking of getting a Morley Vai's Signature or VOX Wah V847, what do You think about these? or maybe you suggest me a crybaby?
pleasy give me your opinions on these wahs.

Re: New Wah Pedal

I dont have too much experience with Morley wahs. I prefer the older style ones though compared to the Morley ones. Vox will give you a more vintage tone, dirtier too (when you got some distortion going, you can click the wah on and get a little boost in addition to the wah - adds a tad of fuzz which is very desirable when adding it onto power tube distortion - think Cream). More pronounced mids with the crybaby and voxes too. I just like their style better.

If I were not on a budget, I would go for the Fulltone Clyde Deluxe. Supposed to be one of the best out there. Of course, you probably wont find it in your local guitar center and its in the high $200 range. If you want something cheaper, Id take either Vox Reissue (clyde or normal). But there is a lot of stuff out there - wait for more replies. I am not too crazy about my Crybaby Classic (has some "dead spots" and sounds terribly bright with one of my amps clean). Wait for other replies. I also heard that the Budda one is a very underrated wah pedal and has a great tone.

Re: New Wah Pedal

I'm really biased towards the Ibanez Weeping Demon Wah. Almost infinitely tweakable, including the option of using the on/off switch on the side of the pedal or setting it to turn on when you step on it (a la the Bad Horsie).

Skarey recommended it to me (along with a couple of other brothers), and I recommended it to daemonbarbeque (who also loves it).

Great bang/buck ratio as well.

Re: New Wah Pedal

I recommend that you get a Dunlop GCB-95 (the plain old, cheap Crybaby), a handful of resistors and capacitors, and learn to solder :D

Re: New Wah Pedal

thanks:D
and mind that i don't konw anything about wahs ,i'm just a complete noob when it comes to effects:smack: so I want to learn some more abot them , thanks for the input and i'm sill waiting for more replies.

Re: New Wah Pedal

I have a Morley Bad Horsie 2, I have no complaints. It goes Wah, and sounds good doing it. I like the switchless design and it is built well. I am not a Wah purists. I am not on a quest for the perfect or vintage Wah tone, so the Morley suites me just fine.

Re: New Wah Pedal

I have both the Morley Tremonti Power Wah and the Dunlop Zakk Wylde Wah. Both rip!!!! The Morley is great live for the step on and off to activate feature. But the Wylde wah has awesome tone beyond any other I've played. I like both but favor the Wylde wah more now.

And get it off of Ebay. I got the Wylde wah for $75 shipped in mint condition.

Re: New Wah Pedal

If your new to a Wah go buy a Crybaby. For 69$ they are a good starting point. After you have owned one for a while go play a few and see what you like or don't like about the others that are available.

I own a vintage wah from the 60's (Thomas Organ Company Crybaby)

I own a Vox Clyde McCoy (very good wah)

I own a Vox 847 (currently being modde by StratDeluxer97)

The best Wahs out there right now IMHO is a Tesse Wah or a Fullertone Clyde Deluxe. These Wahs are pretty expensive, but they nail the Hendrix/Clapton Wah tones of the 60's. If your looking for a more modern sounding Wah you may want to look elsewhere!

My vintage Crybaby was modded extensively by our own StratDeluxer97 and it is one of the best Wahs I have ever used. The Vox 847 I anticipate will be much better once John works his magic on it. (look for a post reviewing this in the future).

If you don't want to be bothered with buying a Wah and modding it, buy the Fullertone Clyde Deluxe. One of the best Wahs made today!

Dave....I Owned a Teese Picture Wah that I payed like $235 for from AnalogMan....I returned it because my own modded 847 was a better looking pedal and it was more vocal and way more versatile....I now own 2 modded 847s and an 848 that I Modded....The key is a good inductor, the right caps, and some changes on the board...Basically you're tweaking the resonant peak and how that peak happens and a wah is just basically a filter..

The Teese RMC1 is a cool pedal for the single coil guys and I Like the Fulltone Clyde Deluxe, but I refuse to spend stupid money on someone else's wah, when guys like Lew have told me my modded wahs are right up there with the best wahs out there today! :13: I'm happy buying a used 847 for say $50 and then putting the right components, true bypass, and a power supply into it myself....I end up with a vocal wah that I Modded myself and modded cheap....Still under $100 in my case total cost for me!

Re: New Wah Pedal

I have a Bad Horsie 2, and it's a great little wah. The Countour mode is useful as well. I don't think it sounds too great for the traditional clean wah tones, but it gets the job done.
The fact that it's switchless is convenient, but I've recently gotten into leaving the wah in a fixed position to keep a nasal tone, and with the Morley you have to keep your foot there and hold it rather than being able to leave it in whatever position with a traditional wah.

Re: New Wah Pedal

If you guys have read my other wah posts you know waht I'm gonna say...

Tesse Wahs.....nothing, absolutely nothing is better.

Teese makes alot of different models, but Mike Fuller's Clyde wahs are right up there with Teese's as far as the "Jimi" wah tone...Some of Teese's wahs have way too much tweakability,I mean you really only need "1 great wah tone"!:laugh2:

Re: New Wah Pedal

If I were you I'd go on ebay, buy a used Vox 847, and have the seller ship it directly to STRATDELUXER97 for some mods. I have one of John's mod'd 847's and I've yet to find anything that I like better (unless John mod's another wah for me....lol). I've had and still have a Crybaby (also mod'd but by someone else) that I use occasionally, but the Vox gets used 99.9% of the time. The Vox has a much sweeter voice, IMHO, than any Crybaby.

Get an 847.

Hi Bobby....Thanks for the nice wah plug buddy! :laugh2: Today I got another 1 of Bludave's wahs to mod....An 847 go figure! :laugh2:

Re: New Wah Pedal

John, I agree on the need for one great wah tone. However, tweakability is like tilt-steering in a car. You can adjust it to where you want it, and then LEAVE it set.

That's what I've done with my Weeping Demon.

I listened to some soundbytes of the Weeping Demon at M-F a few weeks back and just went back to review them again and I gotta admit the pedal sounds like it can do some pretty incredible things but I'm not sure what kind of rig was used with the Demon to make those tracks. I wouldn't mind trying one out at least to hear what it does.

The key is to get the wah set for it's best area of vocal quality and tone and then you can not have to worry about adjusting stuff....If you had a pot that went from 0 to 10 and 6 was your favorite setting, wouldn't you always set that pot to 6? Guitarists have this KISS mentality! The guy selling the wah can satisfy many different people's styles and I can see that as being a plus, but sometimes it's harder when something is over tweakable! :13:
