So one thing that I wanted to do this year was try to do as much set up work on my guitars as possible. Mainly because set ups run anywhere from 50-75 dollars depending in what they do. So I started this morning and have changed the strings on 6 of my 7 guitars, including 4 that have Floyd's. Had to spend some time readjusting the balance of the bridge due to gauge differences, and one guitar where I changed the tuning. Everything came out great and I realized that Floyd's are not so difficult once you get into it some and get a little practice. Anyway, another thing I was going to pay my local shop to do, but I decided to do it myself was sanding some of the thick finish off the back of 2 of the strats. I masked everything off and took some fine sandpaper and now the necks are smooth and fast like my charvel's. However, my question now is whether or not I need to put some sort of oil on the sanded part like a gun oil or tongue oil. Anyone ever do this and can shed a little light on this subject?
