As much as I think Zachary Vexx is one of the greatest FX designers out there, I'll never understand why he thinks he can sell cheap generic boxes for nearly $300. He should have done enclosures like Fulltone, Banzai, or Electroharmonix.
My main gripe with those small Hammond boxes is that your foot can easily move the knobs. That's fine on a channel switcher or AB box because there's no knobs. It's even worse on the pedals that are turned sideways.
Look at the one in the picture. If you used that onstage, you could accidentally turn the bass all the way off with your shoe, and end up playing a solo that's pure treble. I personally won't pay a premium for a pedal that's got a box like an MXR. $100 tops for those!

he makes some wacky stuff but there is tone to be found in there. i played with a probe fuzz that my friend had and it had the mojo. it was also harder to use than most stomp boxes. the whole proximity thing is tricky when intoxicated and trying to stand on one leg

That's exactly what I thought. Those probe pedals are the coolest thing ever, but falling on your face wouldn't be. :smack: :fingersx:

It is from the silly trend of small boxes for pedals!!
I have never liked small pedals much, only the Boss and Ibanez pedals have some good designed boxes there.
And if I had my way some of our stuff would also see a different shape!

The ringtone has been out for a while, I actually got to try one not too long ago, cool box but as strange as almost all other ZVEX units...

Unfortunately you pay for the painting, although some pedals have "Vexter" versions with less paint (and a lower price). I've never owned any Zvex pedals, and don't really plan on it. The one nice thing about his site, is that he has video walk throughs of all his pedals.

I have played on quite a few Zvex pedals. What i like about his line of pedals is that they are all pretty weird, the only really normal pedal is the Box of Rock. I hope my local dealer will get one of the new ones when he goes down to namm. BTW does anyone know what the MACHINE really does? I don't really get it.

I think the Box of Rock is a FANTASTIC pedal!
I've had millions of pedals, and of all the distortions i've had, this one is definetely the best. It does everything the Fulltone OCD doesn't do, and is sounds less steril to me.
I also own a wah probe, which also sounds fantastic, but there is the slight chance of falling on you a** trying to operate it
I can live with all zackary's wackiness, just as long as the tone is there!

I heard the box of rock is very good and could blow away the OCD. I was pretty impressed by the demo video on the site, but I do not have any experience with it. Box of Metal, ehhhh, Im not oogling over any distortion pedals anymore. I like some ZVex stuff. They seem kinda "toyish" for how much they cost. And of course, they are very wierd in the sounds you can get. I played Fuzz Factory a lot and was sorta impressed. I thought it was okay - the normal fuzz sounds coming out of it I thought were not the best I've ever heard, but decent. Then you get all the wierd stuff I'd never use, and that's why I don't have a ZVex.
