Newbie P-Rails Wiring Q - yep, another one!

Hi guys,

I've been reading through the forum search results but haven't found anything that quite matches up with what I'm trying to do... Unfortunately, I'm not much at figuring out circuits (but I'm trying/learning), and I've got myself into a bit of a pickle with my P-Rails install...

What I'm trying to do:

I'm putting my P-Rails into an ESP Eclipse II. I have replaced the three pots (Bridge Vol, Neck Vol, Tone) with 500K DTDP push/pull pots, and I would like the Volume push/pull switches to change between two pickup configurations (Serial/P90 or Parallel/Rail) for the individual pickup it controls, depending on the Tone Control switch. So basically, I'd like the switching to work like this:

when the TONE CONTROL is DOWN
- Bridge Volume Down = Bridge Pickup Serial Humbucking
- Bridge Volume Up = Bridge Pickup P90
- Neck Volume Down = Neck Pickup Serial Humbucking
- Neck Volume Up = Neck Pickup P90

when the TONE CONTROL is UP
- Bridge Volume Down = Bridge Pickup Parallel Humbucking
- Bridge Volume Up = Bridge Pickup Rail
- Neck Volume Down = Neck Pickup Parallel Humbucking
- Neck Volume Up = Neck Pickup Rail

This is the ideal configuration, and though I'm not married to it I'd like to try to get it working... Still, I'm having a heck of a time figuring out the circuit to do this. I've looked at the 1 Vol. 1 Tone diagram on this site and tried to extrapolate from there, but I'm hitting a dead end. Can anyone lay it out for me? Is it even possible without a maze of cross wiring?

Thanks for any help.
Jim

hmmm, have you considered triple shot rings? this gives you all these options and you can then use the push pulls for other things, like phase reversal or putting the two pups in series with each other.

The setup you've suggested looks possible, but INCREDIBLY complicated.

+1 for the triple shots.
I have a similar thing going on for my DK2M with only 2 PPs. I can not even think of a possibility for the 5th position in my switch.

So using 2 Triple Shots, 2 PPs and an at least 4 way switch you can cover all possibilities. (at least all of I can think of :))

Edit: Welcome to the forum!

This is actually pretty straightforward, I did something very similar. Look at the prails diagram with 4 push pulls, wire the volume push pulls the same way and use both sides of the tone push pull instead of wiring to one one side of two separate push pulls.

Wow! Thanks for the quick responses guys! I really appreciate it...

Yep, I've looked at them quite a lot in fact... the thing is, what I'm trying to do is create my idea of "matched pairs" off the volume switch (Down=Series/Up=P90 OR Down=Parallel/Up=Rail), changing between these two configs with the tone control switch, and that doesn't match anything on the existing diagrams I've seen...

I haven't seen the P-Rails diagram with four push/pulls... Is it something posted by a forum member? I can't seem to find it in the Wiring Diagrams...
