Newbie!!!!

Hi,

Looking to purchase a Seymour Duncan Evenly Voiced Harmonics '78 model but they don't sell them over here in the UK? Has anyone got any advice or links for this product and where I can buy one. Maybe someone is selling a second hand one? I'd be happy to take it off you for the right money!

I have also read about a Custom/'59 hybrid using mismatched coils form these two pickups which is actually loads better than the EVH model. Again if anyone has any info on who I can buy one of these from again it would be appreciated!

Great forum - I look forward to some great threads!

Re: Newbie!!!!

Hi man and welcome !

about the EVH you can contact Lew :

or John :

who are both great guys from this board and whose service and prices are really good.

I made some orders (from France) to them and it always worked fine. Consider about 10 days for delivery.

About the "Hybrid" '59/Custom PU , here is what a friend of ours posted on the old forum :

"Hey there... I am a newbie to the board... been using Duncans for about 20 years now!
Been checking out all the talk on the fine variations of the Duncan Custom and thought
I would register and get involved in helping others reach the pinnacle of tone.
Many years ago, I had the fortune of meeting EVH backstage and chatted guitars for awhile...
luckily, he was a bit sauced and revealed to me his "secret" pickup!
This was the time period of Fair warning...
Being fond of the 59 and Duncan Custom models but wanting something in the middle ground,
he made a pickup with one 59 coil and one Custom coil...
he described it as a WOOFER and a TWEETER combined to capture the full tonal spectrum of the guitar...

the mismatched coils also cancelled less frequencies and had 2 different resonant peaks
producing a more balanced tone.
The only drawback is that is cancelled just a tiny bit less hum...
which is barely noticeable(NOTE: this combining of different coils is patented by Dimarzio
and is the basis of almost all of their pickup designs starting with the FRED)
Anyway... I immediately fabricated one of the pickups and have not looked back since...
they are in most of my guitars...
it's ABSOLUELY FANTASTIC SOUNDING!
The coils add up to approx. 11.5k and the pickup retains it's tone and clarity while rolling
down the volume control WITHOUT the resistor/capacitor trick across the lugs of the potentiometer.
You can fine tune it with A2 or A5 magnet depending on the particular instrument.
If you are handy with a soldering iron and fine wiring this is not that difficult of a project.

Of course, I still use the regular 59(Alnico 2 or 5), Custom(Alnico/Ceramic variations)
and JB in some guitars, but if you need that something right in-between...
this is the pickup that will do it! "

Hope it will help you

A froggy !

Yeah, both Lew & John ship to the UK for a fair price, I have ordered from Lew a couple of times and had no problems.

Welcome by the way...

That's a big 10-4!

I remember that thread. We (the forumites) have been harassing duncan for a while about making a 10-11k ohm pup besides the screaming demon. BTR did it. The S-deco is the only pup SD is making right now and it's a custom shop piece.

Re: Newbie!!!!

Thanks Guys! They don't list the EVH model on those weblinks? Is it a custom order also?

I think so...

If it is too expesive you may consider buying a 59'b or a JB. The 59b' should be the type of PAF that Edie had instaled in the stripped Kramer he used on his first album. If memory serves me he took the pickup from a 59' ES-335. Some poeple assure he used a JB on the later ones.
