Newer LP Custom neck profile?

Anyone have a newer Gibson LP Custom? What neck profile do they have? Is it the 50s or the slim 60s? Hoping to come into some cash soon and want to make a small dream come true but I'm not a fan of the 60s neck. Just too thin for my taste down at the higher frets. I prefer more of a taper like the 50s neck. No one over on the Gibson forum seems to be very competent.

50's, but not huge baseball bat big, just full like a regular production 50's. The last customs I've encountered with thin necks were the Norlins of the late 70's - early 80's with the three piece maple necks. After that they got bigger.

Cool. I have a 2010 SG Std with what they call the 50s neck. I love that neck. Thanks.

Re: Newer LP Custom neck profile?

Customs seem to have their own profile. It's not the slim taper '60's neck...it's thicker. It's nothing like my '58/'59/'60 Historics. It has a different taper as you go up the neck. In some ways, it's a very odd neck for a Gibson. My LP Supremes have this same neck.

I have many guitars, and switch back and forth all the time...usually without too much problem, but these always seem to take a little longer to adapt to.

The have made some special runs with the 1960 slim taper, like the one they did for Guitar Center, the Tri-Burst. And I think some of the Historics have fatter necks, like the original models.

You just have to play them.

The GC special run triburst was the 68RI, which normally has a huge historic 50's neck, but they made some for GC with 60's. To me they are easy to spot from a regular custom. Also, the regular custom has the production style 50's neck which is not as beefy as the historic 50's necks. It's medium big closer to a R9 neck than the typically larger R7 and R8 necks.

Re: Newer LP Custom neck profile?

The measurements on Gibson's site for the 50s neck is .82 at 1st and .96 at 12th. That's about what I measure on my Gibbys with that neck. The new LP Traditionals are .9 at 1st and 1" at 12th which is more like what a real 50s style neck would be. I just personally don't like that 60s neck but it seems like that's what they are going with on almost everything that theyre cranking out lately.
