this is the bridge lipstick tube pickup from GFS. i'm currently wondering if I should buy a SD one and a neck pickup. i'm not too happy with the SSL-6 that I have. I might try some darker mags in it.

tell me what you think of the tone....it doesn't sound full enough to me. seriously considering buying a different cab. the volume was on 4 and the bass was on 9 and the treble on 6. The gh1275s that are in there totally suck the goodness right out of there. I think I'll do that before new pickups. cause everything is too ice-picky for anything but maybe this genre

Lipstick pickups aren't supposed to be really full sounding pickups. They're thin, punchy, bright and clear pickups (a little trashy through some gain - very cool and unique sound). Through your setup they sound harsh, so I'm wondering if the height of the pickup needs adjusting or you simply need different lipstick pickups (I've never tried Duncans, but I can tell you the ones Jerry Jones winds are incredible).

I've played through Bandmasters and they're typically pretty dang warm amps, so I'm surprised they're that harsh sounding (maybe it's the cabinet?)

it is the speakers....i'll be getting new speakers after I buy my own Bandmaster...haha

Nice tone. Very single coil-ish, very DuoSonic-ish. Not very full, sure, but it's a single coil, and a bright one at that, plus it's in the bridge. I mean, if you wanted more mids, you could go with Alnico II Pro Staggered in there. I have one sitting right here. Not much darker than the lipstick, but still darker than it. I'll record a clip of me playing my Lite Ash bridge pickup and you can tell me what you think.

Quite like the tone personally, problem is, without backing drums/guitar/bass etc etc it will always sound a little empty.

I have no clue about lipsticks...

It sounds more trebly and emptier than a normal SC would be expected to, but overall I don't think it sounds bad at all... nice and jangly, a bit twangy.

What do you think of the both on tone? I think THAT'S the strength of those axes

that wasn't bad, add a bassist in the mix. yeah.....

but if you are going to be playing alone, yes harsh.
