Next project

Now that the firebird is finally done it's time to start planning the next mod…most likely it'll be the Epi ltd edition reviera P93…Probably replace the pots (concentric so that each pup has a vol and tone control, caps, jack, switch and wiring and turn it into an HSH configuration using duncans HBs of some sort and perhaps a Gibson P90…maybe put roller saddles on the bridge. I still haven't figured out the switching so I'll have to meditate on it for a little while.

Re: Next project

cool! Ive NEVER been a P90, hollowbody, or bigsby lover, (thought they were all horrible ) but I saw this guitar yest in a MF catalog and thought to myself "wow, thats awesome!"..

Re: Next project

Great choice. I put a roller bridge on my P-93 so the Bigsby would work smoother, and Gibson P-90's. I'd recommend keeping yours all P-90's; there's already thousands of kinds of HB guitar out there. You can cut down the noise a little by lining the inside of the PU covers with aluminum foil.

My favorite wiring for a triple PU guitar is to give the bridge it's own volume & tone, and have the neck/middle share a (volume) blend pot and tone. Changes between PU's is quicker and easier that way, which helps on stage. Flip the toggle from middle to bridge, or neck to bridge; no dialing down volumes and dialing up volumes to get the PU you want. If you want to get fancy you can make one pot a push-pull for phase, and have another push-pull to link the PU's in series (like the Jimmy Page system).

Re: Next project

I like Blueman's idea of the push-pull pots…any idea of where to get a wiring diagram? What about putting a P90 size '59 in the bridge and P90s in neck and middle?

You can get all the power you want in a bridge P-90 by putting in an A8/A5 or A8/A4 magnet pair. Plenty of output, mids, and punch; more than a '59. You can dial in just what you want with P-90's because of the twin magnets, much more so than with an HB. Twin A5's will give you a bright, clear neck, and an A5/A4 has a bit more body & a little less low end. An A5/A3 is a little brighter than a pair of A5's, with a little less output and bottom. You can tweak each of the three P-90's EQ and output with magnets. Trust me, you don't need an HB in there.

Hermetico (and maybe ArtieToo) has a wiring diagram for a single push-pull to link two PU's in series.
