Next Trend in Amps?

There is no room for innovation when it comes to tube amps. Anything that can be done has been done by this point.

I'm assuming you didn't see my earlier post, there is lots of room for innovation... including new design's and the incorporation of older ones.....all in one amp...

....gee, sounds like my amp design's.......

I can assure everyone, you ain't seen nothing yet!

I hear you, but, look at this thread... how many forward ideas have you seen in this thread? Not a lot truly.

Better question might be what about todays and yesterdays amps don't do it for you? What do you want them to do better?

Oh yes, I will !

But I think I need a few more pointers from you, I've send you a mail. :reporter:

bumpity bump

Anybody else doing this as well ?

Re: Next Trend in Amps?

A simple step towards multiple effects loops, MIDI, and multi-channel footswtiching (for the amp) so a person can easily run their PODs, stomp boxes, and rack/guitar syth gear in one (give or take) simple set up.

Doesn't sound like much - but I find FX loops, and multi-channel amps lack the sweetness of single channel classic amps. Amps like Riveras have great MIDI feature, but are hard to user and tediuos to set. Few amps have integrated multiple FX loops. I have seen it in some TC Elcectronics and Tone bone products at best.

Hmm how about the next trend in pedal boards?

7027 or 7591 which have been pretty neglected by the boutique guys. These are being made again, and they are great sounding tubes in the right circuits.

IIRC, the 7027 is just a 6L6gc that can take 750v on the plates. could probably do more, but the bases and tube sockets limit the max voltage.

when they invent lightweight transformers that can do the job of the good stuff, I'll try to make them lighter. :)

they are already being made. they are called switching power supplies. sadly, they are HIDEOUSLY expensive for what we do.

and that wouldn't get rid of the big heavy transformer that really matters: the output transformer.

Re: Next Trend in Amps?

I would like to see several things....

1. Get rid of the stupid built-in effects. On $200 practice amps, they make sense. On $800+ tube combos or heads, they're stupid.

2. Have Schecter and ESP start making amps. Their Korean import guitars are incredible and damn near revolutionary, considering the flame/quilt tops, neck-thru construction, (ie, stuff previously only available on high dollar instruments).

I agree with this; the new mesa dual rectifier heads have assignable channel effects loops which is pretty cool.

I can't understand why other amps would not spend the extra few bucks to allow for this? I mean who the hell wants to do the pedal dance. Lets say you are on a distortion channel and you want to go to clean with flanger, that is two foot-clicks for most people

I am thinking modeling amps are a way of the future; and that the 2x12 combo is going to start to rule simply because the 4x12 is so huge...I cant fit it in my Corrolla anyways...

very true. was a bit late. i failed to mention the other portion of the equation. but a switcher for the power supply will drop 1/4 to 1/2 the weight of a normal tranny, power that is. thanx for keeping me on my toes!!! doh!!
