Gibson Firebird Studio 70s Tribute

Geez. You'd think they'd just call it the 70s Firebird or something.

Whole lot of guitar. I was happy to see that it has the same bridge as the SG standard, everything else is very high quality as well, all the wiring is class act. Now I just need a case for it. The action can go very low, the fretboard radius is flat as hell.

I hate to say it, but I don't regret letting go of my Fender at all. This guitar is superior in every way.

I love the Tribute series! I have a 70s Tribute Les Paul and that thing oozes vintage tone. The buckers sound really good. I did replace the bridge with a Custom Shop mini JB for a little more heat, but the neck is exactly what I'd want in a LP. I also replaced the Corian nut with a brass one, which made a big difference. Congrats on the killer purchase! I think you'll be happy (for a few weeks :)).

More than a few weeks! I've now experimented with almost all popular guitar body shapes, the firebird shape is something special to me.

Plus I think I've got a particularly good one, there's good sustain and lots of resonance.

then again some of you have $3,000 Les Pauls so I guess that's all relative huh?

I thought the tribute les paul was the one with dirty fingers?

The brass nut is an interesting choice. You wanted something brighter than the stock nut?

This guitar's neck pickup sounds as much as a strat as a gibson can sound... much better than "split" humbuckers.

Many times it feels like I'm playing an HS guitar instead of one with two humbuckers.



I think a Les Paul is what's next. I have a ways to go before that though, I still haven't been able to pickup my ES-333 from the shop! I've still got a whole other guitar to discover.



On the subject of Fender guitars: Obviously the Strat is an amazing guitar that in itself, is a legend. The thing is that lately I haven't picked up a Fender that I've felt at home with. It always feels foreign.

That's for the remarks guys, I'm very very happy with this guitar!

Yeah I was worried about that initally. It's just a line shaped dent in the finish. No big deal, right now I'm holding an SG with more "damage" than my firebird, it's all good.

I have the 2012 Tribute Les Paul, same year as your Firebird. Both guitars have the same pickups as they're kind of a hybrid of Firebird & minibuckers. That was the year with the baked maple fretboard, which I actually really like. I'm hoping time proves these as less desireable, so I can pick them up for cheap. I also really like the '70s neck profile where it's thin to thick. All around, it's a great guitar! Good choice!

Entirely new pickups from Gibson USA, these units improve upon the best attributes of the former Mini Humbuckers seen in the Les Paul Deluxe in the '70s, and the different Firebird Mini Humbuckers of the early '60s, in an efficient design that uses dual steel blades and an Alnico magnet for a vintage voice that still retains plenty of chime.

Oh I see, right on! I wanted a firebird but wasn't willing to pay the $1700 for the 2014 model.

I don't care at all about the fingerboard and unless I bring it up no one notices, not for the looks or the sound.
