NGD: 1950's-60's parlor guitar mystery, what's it worth?

I found this parlor guitar in a recycling center for $40. I plan on getting new strings for it and polishing it up, but before I do that, I want to know how much it is worth. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1442103955.468154.jpg Thanks,
Nathan.

^ thats exactly right, because that's Django Rhinehardts old guitar. I know this for a fact, having done extensive research on this instrument, and I represent a group of investors that are prepared to offer you 1.5 million dollars right now.

Could be worth $100, or maybe only $10.

It's worth what someone is willing to pay for it.

Ba-ba-boom, splash!

Forty AU Dollars for the guitar and, probably, twenty more for new strings? :scratchch

Maybe, get a soundhole-mount magnetic pickup and take up slide?

Maybe, this is another forty Dollars that could have gone towards the American guitar that you really wanted?

Don't assume it has a lot of market value just because it's old. If you feel it was worth it though, then it was worth it.

I picked up a Dorado acoustic many years ago in a Pawn Shop for $40. Import model under the Gretsch banner back in the late 70s, made in Japan. Plays like crap due to the top being angled and the neck being straight in line with the bridge, the ever-stupid zero-fret, and crappy tuners.

Sounds like a beast with a thick glass slide, though, and you can bash the crap outta the strings with a medium pick, and it just roars. If I were ever to have someone make me a custom acoustic, I'd want it to sound like that. I really need to immerse myself in slide techniques to do the tone justice. I also need a mic that could accurately capture the tone, because it's just orgasmic.

Of course, you may just be out $40.

For some good vintage vibe, try a ribbon mic...

Not looking for a mic that colors the tone. Trust me, this is not the tone of a vintage Robert Johnson vinyl platter or a National Resophonic with a metal cone. This is very "woody". Hmmm, wonder if a Duncan Woody would work.

I've got an old issue of Recording magazine where they reviewed several mics for acoustics and the author mentioned a Radio Shack lavalier that some big-name player he interviewed has one mounted inside the guitar, and got the most accurate representation of the guitar. Need to dig through my vault
