NGD! 1981 Fender Bullet

Oh man, I've been waiting weeks for this. I was trying my hardest to get rid of my Edwards Les Paul and finally found someone that bought it.

After the money cleared, I could afford a Bullet. I looked all over the corners of the internet for one in a good condition and couldn't be more happy with my purchase.

It just got here earlier today and looks great. The plays incredibly and the .10s sound just right on the guitar, too.

They come with Mustang pickups and have a really unique and bright sound to them. I may replace the pickups, since they don't really have enough push or bass to them for me, but I'm pretty happy with the sound.

I've only got one pictures as of right now, but it definitely shows what I'm working with.

Re: NGD! 1981 Fender Bullet

Congratulations! That looks like one very well looked after guitar.

I am so old that I can remember when these guitars first came out. I do not remember Fender publicity mentioning that Bullet pickups were to Mustang specification. They just sounded like slightly weak Strat pickups. At the time, I assumed that the skinny body and metal pickguard were responsible.

Needless to say, with that original combined pickguard and bridge arrangement, any pickup upgrades that you wish to make will be limited to single coil sized replacements. If you fancy anything with side-by-side dual coils, it might be worth checking in-store that the new pickups will fit through the apertures before purchasing.

Enjoy.

Thanks for the input! I'm not particularly too interested in side-by-sides, so I don't think I'll have much trouble in that department.

I'm only looking at some single coils and a few different Lace Sensor models to replace these with. Other than that, I think it could be a really great guitar after those modifications.

Yes, I remember when those were new too! I probably have an original brochure somewhere! I thought it was unique the way the pickguard was part of the bridge!

Re: NGD! 1981 Fender Bullet

I've been looking for a bullet deluxe, too. That'd be a great addition to a growing collection, haha.

The neck is really something on this guitar. There isn't a mark on it--and it's just thin enough not to be considered a fat neck. Its definitely got some chunk in it, though.

Re: NGD! 1981 Fender Bullet

Exactly. I'm always looking out for cool new (and not so new) things and this definitely is going to keep me busy for a while.

Re: NGD! 1981 Fender Bullet

I liked every one of those Bullets I ever played. I always thought they were great little guitars. Congratulations!!

Re: NGD! 1981 Fender Bullet

I would seymourize it, then play the snot out of it. I love how it looks like the offspring of a tele and a mustang. Play it out, and make it yours.... it may not have the aura of a strat, but it's quirkiness gives it a special aura all its own!

+1 on majorly diggin' it

Re: NGD! 1981 Fender Bullet

I would never have sold a LP to get that, but if YOU love it, that's awesome! Can't beat the feeling of getting a guitar you've been GASsing for eh? :)

Re: NGD! 1981 Fender Bullet

Yeah, I definitely plan on using this guitar. Its got a lot of potential and has excited me quite a bit because. I'm really pumped to put some new pickups in this guitar--something that'll show the real potential.

Also, I finally got around to taking some decent pictures of it, so spam ahead!

They use to go for 99 bucks, and you still couldn't move them. it was below bottom of the line.

Made Hondo look like Gibson custom shop. Had a nasty habit of strings pulling thru the "Bridge"...

It was the AMC Pacer of electric guitars.

The only one I remember selling was to a guy that had a showcase and wanted a cheap guitar to destroy on stage.

But hey...If your happy with it...That's the important thing.

Re: NGD! 1981 Fender Bullet

That's really no concern of mine, whether or not the guitar has previously 'sold well' or it's put to better use by smashing it.

The model I have works just fine, sounds good and isn't going anywhere.

Congratulations! You are the proud owner of the worst guitar Fender ever made.

And Congratulations he's owner of something that's different than a strat, a tele, a jag, or a jazzmaster, which automatically gives it +10000 coolness points!

(not sarcasm, I think that bullet is SWEET!)
