NGD 22nd Birthday Gift to Me (Also help with pickups)

Sooooo.... kind of a spur of the moment decision (read: was drunk).

Picked this up for a nice price. I played one way back when I was 17 and first getting into the idea of seven string guitars (Trivium's Shogun album was huge for me). As great to play now as it was back then. The neck is beautiful to play, very fast and smooth.

However, I'm not digging the Blackouts. I'm looking into some passives. I like the EMG's in my Epiphone LP 7, but I want a different flavor with this guitar. I've heard great stuff about the Pegasus/ Sentient set so I'm looking at those, but they also seem to be pretty mid scooped. In an all mahogany guitar, I feel like that voicing would lead to flabbiness, which is the opposite of what I want. I've been getting into a lot of djent music lately (not that I wanna jump on that bandwagon though either) like Periphery and Tesseract, so something similar to that would be good.

At the same time, I've had such great results with the Duncan Distortion in all mahogany guitars I might just stick a set of those in there instead.

Any help at all guys?

You're only 22? Wow, I feel old...

Too many strings for me on that but Schecter makes quality stuff. I bet it plays like butter and it sure is perty. :p

Black winters are an option. How do they sound split? I'd like to wire the volumes for coil splitting and the tone for phase inversion.

No experience personally. Though the comments on the forum I have seen are positive regarding split. Maybe someone else can confirm?

A friend of mine suggested a set of Bareknuckle Painkillers. He has an Explorer with them in there, but I haven't had the opportunity to play it yet through my rig. He's gonna bring it on Tuesday and let me try it. I think those are similar to the Duncan Distortion set.

I played the Bareknuckles and I loved them. I decided to go with the Painkiller in the bridge and an Abraxas in the neck. I had been curious about Bareknuckles in the past and was really happy i pulled the trigger on them.

That guitar is Hot!! might wanna turn the oven down.....LOL!! Sorry, in a mood.... Congrats!! I had a C1 for awhile and it was a nice axe

Well I dropped the Bareknuckles in there. They've been in for a couple weeks or so. Wired it up with some Alpha 500k push/pull pots, Orange Drop caps, and two treble bleed mods. It sounds amazing. Dual coil splits plus phase inversion for the neck pickup.
