NGD: a Red Hamer

New guitar came in Tuesday after a long delay due to the mild weather some called a blizzard in atlanta.

1999 Hamer Artist 25th Anniversary

(hopefully the picture works)

Absolutely beautiful guitar, and plays awesome. The sound and feel reminds me of the best parts of an SG, Les Paul, and a ES-339 all together.

Sadly, within a hour of receiving it, i found that the jack was busted. Having a tech replace the jack and switch now. I should have her back tonight or tomorrow.

Re: NGD: a Red Hamer

nice! hamer usa are my favorite guitars although i only have three

Re: NGD: a Red Hamer

Thanks guys! Is absolutely fantastic!

The catalyzed Nitro finish is beautiful to look at. Its clean, Shiney, not sticky, thin feeling, and seems protective.

Hopefully i get it back tonight or tomorrow! :)

I assume so, the jack was busted so i cant crank it up yet. Hopefully the shop gets it done tomorrow :)

It does on the headstock

Thanks! It defiantly seems like a keeper!

So is that a Gibson scale
Low wide frets or super jumbo

Does it growl

Yup

Not exactly sure, but they felt like regular jumbo frets to me. Much like a PRS or Gibson in size.

It growled nicely when i could get the signal through. New jack coming soon to make that all the time :D

Cool thing is, the tech who is doing the repair has owns the same year and model. He loved it, besides the jack of course.

My uncle has an old Hamer Newport as well.

the neck looks wide flat like a PRS
is this your take?

or would it be more chunky gibson

Definitely a flat board with a medium gibson neck. 14.5" radius board, similar to a thinner 59' neck profile iirc

Re: NGD: a Red Hamer

I got a standard strat with the 9.5 radius board
And it just feels odd to me after all the ibanez. At 16
Squires at 12
And the Epi at whatever that is ( think it's 12)

My acoustic has a straight 16", which plays like butter despite the thick strings and higher action. Love it

I blame the radius on strats for my inability to fully get along with them. But i actually like Teles, but the reverend i played tele with a 10-14" was absolutely great.

If i want a new fender-esk guitar, ill ptobably go with a warmoth or an alternative brand with a 10-14" or 10-16" board.

Prs 10" is comfy too though

Re: NGD: a Red Hamer

Its back in the house now, and its definitely a JB. Ill check when i replace the strings if its a JBJ or not.

Once the overcast weather clears, ill take some high res pictures of it :)

Rand knows me. I do LOVE some Hamers. Great looking Hamer Artist you picked up there. Enjoy it well. Hide your wallet. Hamer habits are expensive most of the time.

I have an old Hamer hangtag with suggested settings for the knobs you might wanna try. Even though it came with the early Hamers back in the day, they still work with newer Hamers.

I LOVE Hollowlead. :headbang:

Re: NGD: a Red Hamer

Ill try those tonight after i get some viola tracks recorded.

Its absoutly great! I love everything about it. Its hard going back to my Epiphone LP now :D (not knocking the Epi at all though)

Re: NGD: a Red Hamer

I would like to get another Artist. I had a Korina Artist a few years ago and a friend was by and played it and informed me it was leaving with him and it pretty much did! That all Mahogany one you have is probably a real tone monster once you get to know it. I bet it has a one piece body too under that carved top.

It looks like it might! And it is already a tone monster! I am considering tracking down a late 90's seymour 59' bridge to replace the JB. I kinda a want a more vintage vibe.
