Re: NGD: Alvarez AAT-33 (335 copy)
OK... 3 of my 4 kids are finally in school full-time, my work hours changed (again, but in a good way this time) and I managed to finish a couple of my long-running projects with my new free time. Since I get almost an hour between dropping #4 off, and when I have to be at work, I (usually) have time to check out a guitar store in St Paul before work. Also, I'm building a guitar for a freind, and I got it finished enough to get it set-up and send it to him, so while I was at Vig
http://vigguitarshop.com/ having them finish my project up, they had this Alvarez. I've been wanting a decent ES copy (cause I really don't need a $2K REAL one) All the ones I've handled (Epi Dots, Peavey VF22, etc) are... nice, but they never say "Take me home" when I try them. Either they have pencil-necks, or they feel "dipped in plastic" (or like the "Lennon Casino" I played, I just can't afford them.) I came back today with a couple of my completed projects, and made the trade. THis guitar feels 99% similar to the "real" ES they had, it was a tad lighter, too. The neck on this feels really nice, it's full and kinda wide. I have an Aria Trini Lopez copy, and the neck on that one is just a hair over 1.5", so this guitar just feels awesome comparatively. The hardware on it feels nice and ...uh, quality. The switch is tight, the knobs turn freely (and actually adjust the sound, unlike the on/off pots on a lot of stuff in my price range). The sound: THis has "Duncan Designed" pups, they have good output, the neck pup isn't muddy and the bridge sounds... fine.
