NGD!! An unexpected opportunity! PRS content...

I'll cut right to the chase - I traded my OD100 I had up for sale for a PRS Custom 24 10 top. Excuse the crappy cell phone picture.

I'd had my Suhr/CAA OD100 up for sale for a month and a half and didn't have any takers. I opened up Craigslist to drop the price on my ad again when I spied an ad for this guitar, and the price was a match for what I had the amp up for. I read the ad and the guy said he'd be open to cash or a trade for a good boutique combo amp or head.

I contacted him, told him what I'd had and asked if he'd be up for a straight trade. Interestingly enough he'd never heard of Suhr's CAA amps. I told him the basics of what it was, and he asked me to send him some pictures of it, so I did. After a day, he called me and told me he'd researched the amp and liked what he found, so we agreed to meet up at a local Guitar Center and "audition" each other's gear.

Long story short - he REALLY loved the amp. He had a Mesa Stiletto he wasn't happy with and this was now going to be the replacement. He'd never really played an amp like this before and he was just floored.

As for his guitar, he told me it was his most expensive guitar, but also his least-played, and he'd rather have the cash or a good amp to replace his Mesa. I picked up the guitar and right away I liked the way it felt and sounded. I've always dug Custom 22s and 24s, but they've always been a little out of reach for me, price-wise. This one was in pretty nice condition (3 minor dings on the back and sides) and had the case, trem bar, and all the case candy. He even gave me extra knobs, pickup rings, and straplocks to go with it!

We both came out of the transaction happy with what we got, which is the way it should be. :)

So yeah, I'm a PRS owner now!! :fest7:

Great color!

Congrats!

Creme rings, gold speeds! ;)

Nice score!! I concur with Jeff about the creme rings. I would go one step further and put some Black/Creme Zebra Duncan's of your liking to complete an already killer axe!!

Sounds like the stars aligned for you both on the timing and trade. Congrats! Gorgeous color BTW.

Nice deal! Reminds me of when I traded the Mesa 5:50 combo I got for $200 for my first PRS, a CE24. That looks like a pretty choice piece. The top is nicely flamed without being too "10 top-y." I agree with the other guys, you may want to do a bit of cosmetic work. I personally think that just putting some chrome covers on it would be an awesome look. I think that cream and red don't go as nicely together as red and black.

Watch out though, the PRS bug bites quickly and stealthily. 6 weeks after I got my first one, I had a SE Mushok and a 2000 McCarty. They're just straight up awesome guitars.

Thanks guys! The guy actually included the stock ivory/creme colore pickup rings, but I like the black ones on there. I'm thinking of taking it one step further and getting black chrome, or even dark wood ones.

I do like the idea of Zebra pickups, though. I like the idea of brushed nickel, covers even better too. The stock pickups sound great - but a nice set of Duncans might be on the horizon. I've been looking for an excuse to get a Brobucker lately.

Yeah I do like them. I think if I get another one it'll be a Custom 22 with a stop tail, in blue.

I haven't been a trem user in a while but I played the guitar for a few hours last night and this morning, and the trem action is super smooth and stays in tune better than almost any non-locking system I've tried. I mean - I'm not gonna go Vai on this thing, and it doesn't have the range for that anyway but it's great at little shimmering warbles on chords, standard vibrato, and light dips and dives.

I'll get some better pictures soon - with a better camera and in full daylight.

Congratulations! What a sweet deal!

How does the 24" scale feel compared to what you're accustomed to?

Congratulations! What a sweet deal!

How does the 24" scale feel compared to what you're accustomed to?

I think you mean 25" scale, but in answer to your question it feels great! My Music man uses a 25.5" and my ESP uses 24.75", so I'm used to both scale lengths and have a good reference point for this.

It's a smoother feel and more mellower tone than a 25.5", but at the time time has more definition and snap than a 24.75" as well. It's a good compromise between both scales. The instrument itself of course uses a wood composition that more resembles a Gibson overall, which I like. But bends, legato, and fret spacing feel very comfortable in all respects.

No matter what instrument I pick up, within 20 seconds or so I can tell if it's ultimately going to work for me or not. I picked up this PRS and right away I has a reaction of "Oh, this is going to be nice". It's very comfortbale to play. In a perfect world I'd like slightly taller frets and a slightly narrower nut width, but I've got no trouble getting around on this guitar.
