NGD: another heretic Charvel

Ordered this one right before the new year's eve. It took me some days to overcome the feeling of guilt, though. Because my wife didn't buy the argument "well, see, my dear, I want to have two identical guitars in order to make my tone more or less consistent so I don't have to tweak my amp settings everytime I go from Drop C to C". :chairshot

Anyway, the new Charvel is the blue one from the discontinued Desolation Pro Stock series. It is not 100% identical with the black one (set neck instead of bolt-on, locking tuners) but it sounds the same unplugged. The woods are all the same (all mahogany and rosewood).

The only weird thing are the cream mounting rings. Not sure if I like them with the black binding. But it's a cheap mod. I'll install some Black Winter in there soon, too.

Sorry for the angle, don't know how to turn pictures on my pad.

Yes! Fantastic guitar, I am a massive fan of Charvel, I have 4 pro-mod series. I have yet to try one of their hardtail models, how is it?

Re: NGD: another heretic Charvel

This new Charvel is as fun to play as the black one. The nut width is 42mm instead 42.8-43 I have on my Jacksons. Not a big deal, but my not so big hands are happier with Charvels, not to mention the oiled necks.

I detected only one "flaw". The back of the neck has one spot that is not fine-polished well, feels a bit raw. The Charvel-designed pickups are suprisingly good. If I wouldn't want to tune the guitar 2 whole steps down, they would stay there for long.

The satin blue finish looks fantastic! The chrome hardware have this satin touch too.

I payed €350 for it on ebay in a small music store. It is not used, just a leftover from the Desolation series. I'd recommend it to you if you wanna try a hard tail but they may be hard to find these days. Right now there's the Joe Duplnatier signature model on the market which is basically the same specs except for the Tele shape and the ebony fingerboard. I would have bought it, if I hadn't found this one.

Re: NGD: another heretic Charvel

Awesome score! Love these guitars, should've grabbed one when I could--kinda hard to find now (but not impossible.) Enjoy!

Re: NGD: another heretic Charvel

CONGRATS!! Id still like to have one of the star shaped ones. Just cant justify the purchase, other than I want one..

Re: NGD: another heretic Charvel

I have the black star hard tail and the trans red floyd ,great playing guitars.I switched the pickups in the hardtail...emg 85 bridge...rocks!

Re: NGD: another heretic Charvel

Nice!

Love the color. I think the cream makes it pop.

Congratulations! Looks pretty nice, this blue metallic. And I don't think that cream pickup rings are weird. Your guitar is on the light side!

Here are my "design" "talents", just tried to paint the rings black on the spot:

P.s. Don't take it serious though🤦

I think if the pickups would be all black - and black is the only way to go with Black Winters I want to drop in this guitar - the white rings could be too imposing, no? But I can always decide to swap rings after the pickups have been installed.

First off, Happy New Guitar Day, hope the wife will forgive you for "doubling the fun", as it were :D

As for the PU rings, with Zebra pickups the cream rings look better to me than black but with all-black pickups, between the two I'd choose the black rings, however, I would personally use chrome rings over either two.

I feel chrome rings look better than even black, especially when paired with chrome hardware:

Those chromes look cool. Hope they make them for carved tops too.

Re: NGD: another heretic Charvel

I have some of the chrome top ones too on my explorer.. Im sure they make arched chrome ones, just cant suggest where to get em.. But worst case scenario, get the top covers!
