NGD: Charvel Guthrie Govan

Re: NGD: Charvel Guthrie Govan

It is called a lot of gigs

Sweet guitar.

From what I recall, Charvel got a few factory returns on that guitar since the finish wasn't holding up for Guthrie while he was on tour, so they switched over to a harder satin finish

Re: NGD: Charvel Guthrie Govan

Nice!

Did you pick that up just so you could enter it in the Best Charvel /Jackson competition?
:eek2:

Re: NGD: Charvel Guthrie Govan

Very cool! I never understood why G.G moved way from Suhr guitars?

Re: NGD: Charvel Guthrie Govan

(((money)))

Actually that isn't it. Let's just say at Suhr places some limitations on their artists, not all of their artists are willing to go along. Guthrie was one of the ones that wasn't comfortable with those limitations.

I like this Charvel more than the Guthrie Model Suhr I had.

That's interesting, several artists have moved away from the FMIC umbrella for similar reasons. Interesting that FMIC offers him what he needs where Suhr doesn't.

Also, my question about who he is is a little tongue-in-cheek, I'm aware of him, just not super familar with his music.

Re: NGD: Charvel Guthrie Govan

The bridge looks like the original Floyd (before the addition of the fine tuners) that EVH used in the VHII Bumblebee guitar. It's odd that Charvel made a copy themselves instead of getting Floyd to reproduce them. You'd think it would be cheaper to get a company with the machinery to make it rather than do it in house.
They tried the schaller made one on the prototypes, but they had to change a bunch of things which would've made it cost even more, so they choose to make their own bridge

Nice!! congrats!! care to mention said limitations Suhr artists have that way??

Re: NGD: Charvel Guthrie Govan

God, what a beautiful instrument. I can only imagine it resonating for days and playing itself. Congrats! How much did it cost you, if you don't mind?

Re: NGD: Charvel Guthrie Govan

I almost bought one of these earlier this year. They delayed the shipment date like 2 o 3 times, so i decided to get a less expensive ibanez prestige S series instead. Pickups on the S series ended up to be garbage so a new pickup purchase/ installation has been in the works. After seeing the pics of your GG Charvel, i am quite jealous. Beautiful guitar!!

There was discussion and trading involved so the price is kinda convoluted. I did get the guitar for less than the price of a brand new one but it wasn't cheap. I am not big on discussing money but the overall dent in my wallet didn't hurt very much and my wife didn't leave me so it worked out.

how do you liked the baked wood? I have only played a few but they seemed really resonant to me. I bet the neck feels wonderful on that thing

Re: NGD: Charvel Guthrie Govan

Awesome! IMO, that is one of the best looking guitars out there. Congratulations and enjoy!

I second this question–I absolutely love Roasted Maple necks but have never tried a roasted body.

Re: NGD: Charvel Guthrie Govan

The roasting process seems to increase the overall resonance of the guitar and enhances the guitar's acoustic properties. Remember that this instrument has a roasted maple neck and roasted basswood so there is a lot of roasting involved in his guitar. I think that the roasting process is akin to artificially aging the wood. The roasting process assures that any residual sap or cellular moisture in the wood is eliminated so the end result is,more or less, a guitar made of ancient wood that has age in a desert environment.
