Re: NGD: Charvel San Dimas Pro Mod (Japanese)

thanks guys. a bit of an impluse buy, but once I picked it up and started plinking on it there was no going back. although I'd have a Charvel Predator for almost 25 years, I'd never got into the 'Model this' and 'Model that' and the San Dimas and the So Cal and etc. so if this one is any indication, I've been missing out.

**** yeah thats the go. how does it play?

like a gem. was expecting a generic shred stick vibe, but it's got a little bit more going on. the neck is like buttah!

sound-wise, it's a JB and a '59. don't see a reason to mess with the config, other than to put a polished A4 in the neck and a p/p pot on the neck (undecided on split or parallel)...but that's pretty standard for my setups. I like that they used the smaller screws to direct mount... ESP could take a lesson. lol! if Scott wants to get MJ to donate a RTM for testing purposes, it'd be out to use. lol!

Nice guitar & congrats.;) I love the simplicity of it and the 12"-16" compound radius fret board sounds killer to play on. The neck must be built for speed. The 3-way toggle looks ultra sleek. It reminds me of a spinning top. :)

That's sweet. I wish they had a single-humbucker model in the Pro-Mod series.

I got it to the workbench today to do some tweaks to it... which were very few... and saw something really cool. now, the pups are direct mount. the mounting legs are in contact with the body, no spacers or springs or foam. I'd just figured where it mounted were just sort of a shelf and the rest of the cavity was much lower... but.. nope. that was it. they just routed out a small channel for the screw poles pieces to go down in to. very groovy idea.

but really, the only tweak was a small turn on the truss rod. everything else was the usual thing, like the brass block and brass screws for the trem claw, some Ti saddle inserts, and a polished A4 in the '59n. it has a 3/8" thread diameter pot, so I'll track down a p/p in that diamter to split the '59n.

and yeah, it's a player. no time to waste on a lot of buttons and knobs ans switches. while the entire guitar is great, the neck really jumps out as one of the better attributes among many. been hearing some speculation on the upcoming MIM version, but the MIJ version seems to get a lot of praise.

I originally thought these guitars were boring "shredsticks" and only good for wanking...until I played one. One of the BEST feeling necks I've ever had the pleasure of laying my hands on! ****ing solid guitars! Nice score!

Yeah. the necks are downright addictive! I bought one and love it so much, I had to have another! With a big block and all, they are amazing! You see the bodies on ebay all the time cuz peeps harvest the necks.

Congrats on an awesome score!!
