While it looked like the box got wet, the guitar is safe. It was in a hard case (a nice one, too) and it is carbon fiber after all. Playing-wise, it is every bit as good as the other Emeralds I've played. Great action (SS frets on carbon board), and a louder acoustic sound than I thought. Plugged in, the 2 pickup systems complement each other. The Krivo humbucker in the neck position gets the lower frequencies, and the Graph-Tech Ghost piezos cover the highs. I probably wouldn't like the plugged in sound with just one of the pickup systems- you really need 2 to balance it out. I use about 70% humbucker and 30% piezo for it to sound 'right' to me.
The sound is modern, obviously...not a wall of sound like a Martin, but more separated, with scoopy EQ like a Taylor. It will work great for my acoustic shows and my instrumental guitar recordings. The lows sound like a piano, and the highs like a dulcimer. I dig it.
A bonus is that the guitar came with a handmade ceramic coffee mug by a local maker in Ireland. Very cool, and unexpected. I will post some pics later.
