NGD!!! Epi Les Paul!

Hey guys, I know I don't post too often anymore, school and work have kept me pretty busy. I figured I'd share my new guitar purchase anyways. Long story short, my gf broke up with me, and I had some extra money, so I decided to buy a guitar. I got an Epi Les Paul Standard, black in colour. My camera doesn't have any batteries right now, so no pics, but either way, I'm excited cause it's the first guitar I've purchased in a while. It was a toss up between an Epi SG and the LP, but the LP won in the end.

Sweet. Can't wait to see pics. Any upgrade plans in the works?

eventually the pickups will need replacement, though the stock ones work well enough for now. May add push/pull pots for coil splits as well. I gotta play it for a while longer to see what else may need to be upgraded.

Lol at Jolly. Funny how that works, eh? My ex and I were saving to go on a trip somewhere, so now that a trip won't be happening, the money went to a guitar instead, lol.

Better ROI on the guitar. Screw the vacation; I go on a vacation every time I pick up one of my guitars.

Re: NGD!!! Epi Les Paul!

The LP is so much different than anything else I own. I have huge hands, so the fatter neck feels nice. I still love my Tele's neck, but it's a nice change. I know I'm still in the honeymoon phase with this thing, but I'm having so much fun with it.

Re: NGD!!! Epi Les Paul!

I've got an Epi LP studio. It's no Gibson, but it comes through with the traditional LP weight and sound.

I put a set of Duncan SH-6s in it, but the neck pickup is quite low - away from the strings. I can get some surprisingly warm clean sounds with it.

The new pups really work the guitar up. Well, that and a good setup.

Mine plays pretty well considering I haven't set it up yet, haven't even changed the strings yet, so those will make a huge improvement already. I'm thinking Custom 5/'59 for this one, but I'm not too concerned about the pickups yet.

Good work. Next guitar should be an Epi SG.

lol, the Epi SG just didn't play as nicely, the frets were a little rough in places and it just didn't feel right. Of course I only tried one out of three that they had.

Congrats!

This thread NEEDS pics.

It really does, tonight I should be able to get a few pics.

Here's some crappy cell phone pics. My digital camera is 2 megapixels, and it turns out my phone's camera is too, so probably about the same quality, lol. Anyways, here they are:

Re: NGD!!! Epi Les Paul!

Mr . Turtle I too really like my Epi LP. Its a beast of a Norlinesque guitar- teh Zalkk Wylde -and with upgraded Actives it sounds masive.
I'm still trying to get it tpo play with low action though.
I can understand you not n any rush to get a setup, but I'm poretty sure if you want a littel lower action and to get some high bends , youre going to need a full set-up inculding a fret Crown and level.
Fretwork in general tends to run poor on these Epi's.
I'm glad your thinking of replacing the pickups too somewhere down the line.. Think Duncan , and ya can't go wrong can you?

Crazy high bends aren't a huge concern for me, I can bend fairly easily on it to the extent that I need (a full tone is really all I need), even on the high strings it works well enough. As soon as I get some new strings on it I'll take the time to set it up properly. And Duncan pickups are definitely where it's at. With my Tele as soon as I put a duncan pickup in the bridge it came to life. While the stock pickups on the Epi are decent, they won't keep me happy for long :)

I wouldn't bet on it. Stand-alone cameras usually have better optics and settings that let you dial in the best picture for the shot.

It's kind of like expecting the amplifier built into a $400 compact stereo to be as good as a $400 component amplifier of the same power rating.

Either way, I tried putting new batteries in the camera and it won't work anyways, lol. The thing is around 10 years old, so you have to expect it.

+1. A set-up and upgrading PU's is what I do to my Epi's. That'll get you where you want to be for tone and playability.
