NGD - Epi SG Pro - guitar rescue

Wanted a guitar to travel for a gig overseas next month. It had to be good and it had to be cheap, don't really want to fly with anything too precious if I can avoid it but it has to be gigworthy.

Wasn't finding anything too hot so I did a GC/Ash run and found a "scratch and dent" deal on an NOS '14 SG Pro that I was able to work down to $200. Great little guitar that needs a bit of TLC, mostly easy stuff and the price was dead-on so all win IMO. Plays great, sounds great and I like the looks so how do I beat that? If it makes it back alive I'll be more than happy, if it doesn't I won't be crushed. Putting in a new volume pot, swapping on a set of matching tophats I have will take care of the bulk of the damages. So far I fixed some chips and small cracks (superglue rules!), oiled the board, re-strung and intonated it and it's a little killer.

I really like these pickups!?! A5 Probuckers, apparently I haven't had them in anything before. They can't really be Epi pickups they don't sound like they are suffocating:banana:

Nice find. I have a G-400 Pro 1966 edition. The pickups are Alnico Pros which sound very good compared to what pickups Epiphone has used in the G-400s before. Does your G-400 have push/pull pot volume on the volume pot that is left in it?

Yes it does, it has the p/p pot with the circuit board for the quick disconnects

I had me one of those as my South America beater. I agree on the Probuckers being suspiciously better than the usual Epi offerings.

I don't usually do this, but I took mine and did the whole "stop bar touching the body with the strings wrapped over it" thing, but it made a good deal of improvement to the playability. I also did quite a bit too it, sanding the neck, regretting, that kind of thing. Epiphone SG's make excellent platforms for modding, and sound decent stock as well. It's an especially excellent find for $200.
