NGD: Eric Clapton Partscaster

Built my own EC strat for 3500 less than the Fender version :)

Started with a dirt cheep MIM Strat from Craigslist, sold the neck and used the $ to buy a compound radius from StewMac. I had a pro install and set up the neck - plays like buttah!

Electronics were a gift from the best wife and mother in law ever: vintage noiseless pickup set and Clapton mid-boost cirtcuit. I wired that up myself. Feeling like Macgyver after that!

She's finally all together and a lot of fun to play.

Here's a beauty shot:

Gettin' it done. Nice. Interesting slant on the Noiselesses. What gauge strings? Or is that needed because of how the pickups sound?

Re: NGD: Eric Clapton Partscaster

Fender recommends 3.2mm on the bass side and 2.4 on the treble. That was under the pg so I used 3 nickels on bass and 2 on treble.

Two questions: Do you have the TBX installed?

And more importantly - are you saying your wife is also your mother-in-law?!?!?!?!?!?!

Re: NGD: Eric Clapton Partscaster

If it's a Clapton, you gotta ditch that bar and block the bridge.

Black/white with a maple board is always a good look :)

Yes. The mid boost lit came with the TBX

P.s. No, my wife is not my mother in law. my wife told her mother what to give me. :)

Re: NGD: Eric Clapton Partscaster

use whatever hardwood you have. how do you like the active circuit?

Re: NGD: Eric Clapton Partscaster

i am loving the active circuit so far. It works surprisingly well with the TBX tone. I don't care for the TBX is my other Strat and was thinking about using a regular tone pot instead. Im glad I put it in though. A very versitile setup indeed!

Re: NGD: Eric Clapton Partscaster

i ditched the tbx but im using classic stack + neck and middle with a vintage hot stack+ bridge. i like high end but not the super toppy high end that the tbx introduces

Re: NGD: Eric Clapton Partscaster

My bridge Texas Special was an icepick with the TBX on 10, but I love it on the neck pickup.

The Classic Stacks are much better pickups than the Vintage Noiseless IMO. They dont really need the "super toppy high end that the tbx introduces" because they already have a good sound. TBX works great with the VNs because they need it.
