Finally a new (gently used) guitar to meet my thinline GAS.

Picked up from M123 as a used model with a discount code to make it reasonable. Finish is black which wasn't my first choice but full price wasn't an option either.

Will post photos once it arrives.

Some of those Fender Short Run models look great.

Re: NGD Fender American Vintage Thinline FSR

Congrats! Wonder how those WRHBs sound.. I absolutely love my CIJ 72' RI, but I'm gonna swap out the electronics and the pickups. Acoustically, it's amazing.

Re: NGD Fender American Vintage Thinline FSR

OK so guitar came Friday and I was expecting it to have a few significant scratches on it based on the description from M123. But the guitar arrived and appears to have no wear on it that I have been able to find.

Plastic was still on the pickup covers and pickguard.

As far as the sound goes, the pickups are more rounded than traditional single coils as you would expect but retain a decent amount of spank for humbuckers. I really think the difference can be heard on the neck pickup which gives more clarity and roundness than neck single coils in my opinion, especially when driven.

I will try to post some sound samples in coming days.

I like the pearl pickguard especially.....nice guitar!!

I've just been putting together a tele custom, and I've paid a lot of money to get a pickup that sounds like an original Cunife wide-range humbucker. Apparently the WRHB's you have can have some small mods done to them to make them sound close to the originals

Re: NGD Fender American Vintage Thinline FSR

Hmm mods?

Do let us know what they are if you find them. Not sure if I'm going to do them but it is interesting.

Aaaaaah yeeeah son. looks great. I like them but don't like that they're blue.

Well, the original wide range had threaded rod magnets, 3+3 where half wound upward and half downward. The current version of the wide range is exactly like a normal humbucker, in that it has a bar magnet at the bottom and magnetically conductive polepieces.
The tone is just different....I believe The Creamery in the uk and The Telenator can mod these to make them sound more vintage.

Re: NGD Fender American Vintage Thinline FSR

Curtis Novak makes vintage-spec WRHB replacements, too.

Re: NGD Fender American Vintage Thinline FSR

I know this is kinda crazy but I just spoke to MJ at the custom shop and I'm considering having the pups rewound to vintage spec. It a rewind job, with new pole magnets, spacers to replace the bar mag.

I can't think of a reason not to.

Re: NGD Fender American Vintage Thinline FSR

So after all that I've decided to go with Lollar Regals. They're being put in today and I'll get a chance to listen to them. I can't wait really

Re: NGD Fender American Vintage Thinline FSR

Got the guitar back and the addition of the Lollars are a big difference. Much more snappy tone, that reminds you a single coil but has much more beef to it. The neck pickup really sings and is less thumpy than the original as well.

Really cool sounding guitar. My tech was also quick to mention that this is one reissue that actually is as good as or better than the originals from the 70's. Not too hard to believe really but really cool to hear.
