NGD: Fender Elite Strat

Re: NGD: Fender Elite Strat

That is one nice looking guitar! I really like the wood grain on the body and the maple neck. Stratocasters are great guitars to own and play. I have a '98 American Standard in my avatar and it's a real keeper of a guitar. I noticed on your guitar does it have the truss rod adjustment by the neck pick up and what kind?

Thanks, and yeah, that's a brass wheel at the base of the neck for the truss rod adjustment. IIRC, only the Elites have them. Newer Charvels are the same way.

Oh...that's what I thought. It sure makes adjusting the truss rod look like a piece of cake. That's a real nice feature you have on your guitar.;)

A lot of newer guitars have them. EVH guitars spring to mind. I don't find them too useful, but they certainly look cool on the right guitar.

Re: NGD: Fender Elite Strat

Congrats!!!! Im not a big Fender fan, mainly cuz as stated, I have a hard time gelling with single coils. But that is def a model that gets my attention, both in looks and the fact that they seem to have incorporated some Charvel stuff in there. (truss adjust and neck)

Enjoy!

Re: NGD: Fender Elite Strat

Congrats. I have an HSS elite I am really happy to be the owner. It came with terrible factory setup though, a luthier had to meddle with the nut and it came to life, no sustain at all initially. I pretty much use it for a superstrat, because the neck is facilitating, but most importantly the guitar stays in tune with heavy trem use. Actually it did before I slightly damaged bridge plate, but it is still perfectly good for downward tremming. Great to have that in a guitar without a Floyd, it keeps all the powerful tone of a traditional strat which a Floyd would weaken I believe. One reservation I have is a little too much twang and zing to the sound, if I am not mistaken in my diagnosis. I am sayin this comparing to a 90s US strat. I would make changes if I knew where that came from, because it makes for a harsh distortion tone. I also have some misgivings about somewhat unfocused distortion sound on the lower strings . Still searching for the best humbucker for it actually. But then I am very happy to have it despite these points, because it is so versatile and plays great. I agree N4s sound really good for what they are. Enjoy yours, and please let people hear your observations further down the road.

Thanks again, everybody!

And yeah, I kinda wondered if the Shawbucker in the HSS version wouldn't be a bit twangy. I went full single coil because those tones are almost non-existent in my collection, save for my MIM Tele.

Also, I don't think that Floyds take away from the tone. I have several guitars with them, and don't feel hampered by them tonewise. But I am wanting to get away from them because I just like the simplicity of setting the tremolo flat against the body, tightening up the springs, and being able to go to dropped D, or just experiment with tunings in general, when I feel like it. I have several hardtails I can do that with, but I still like to have a trem.

A few months later are you guys still liking them just as much?

That Autumn Blaze HSS is calling my name!

I have one more than a year now. Not a lot of remorse, it is a quality instrument. But it is not voiced like the most typical strat in my experience. I didn't like the Shawbucker, and couldn't fix any humbuckers that worked great on it. 59/Custom hybrid is the best yet. Somehow it made humbuckers sound harsh. I think if I picked again I would go for the Standard or whatever there is in its place now.
