NGD - Fender MIJ 1954 RI FSR STRATOCASTER...

Re: NGD - Fender MIJ 1954 RI FSR STRATOCASTER...

I approve of altering something so it works for you. I'd have to make changes to it, too.

Re: NGD - Fender MIJ 1954 RI FSR STRATOCASTER...

not really any way to line it up without making the holes bigger or floating the trem. i wouldnt do either so id either put the old cover on or pull the silly thing off and throw it in the case :D

Re: NGD - Fender MIJ 1954 RI FSR STRATOCASTER...

Well...good thing for me, I never break strings and I don't change them all that often, so I will simply keep the cover on for the classic appearance and take it off every time I do change the strings. If that becomes annoying then I'll go the Clapton/SRV route and remove it permanently.

Little 59 is SUCH a good sound...so so SOOOO good! I appreciate the advice about it you gave me in the pickup lounge.

+1

I take all of mine off and throw them in the case.

You can move the vibrato block into alignment with the holes using the vibrato arm.

Fender bullet-end strings make things easier on Strats.

Oh yeah...screw the arm on long enough to put the strings on...easier and quicker than taking the plate off every time. Dunno why I didn’t think of that. Thanks!

Great guitar!

I was frustrated with the back cover on my 62RI so I removed it. Now I have no back cover on any Strat that is strung through the block. (Some of the locking trems still have back plates)

No ones pubes get caught in the springs? Or is that just me.

I keep them on my guitars, with the exception of a home-built where I never drilled for one.

Re: NGD - Fender MIJ 1954 RI FSR STRATOCASTER...

I took apart the one I got for my girlfriend this morning and verified it is an st-54 and it sure looks like a one piece body to me. I also love the grain on the neck/fretboard. It also has a 0 stamped on the neck and 12 stamped in the neck pickup cavity, does anyone know what they mean? Thanks.

Good to know that Fender has a Pure Vintage accessory set for the proper early '54 plastic parts. That used to be a very expensive set of plastic that was available from only one "boutique" maker. I might just stock up for future builds.

Re: NGD - Fender MIJ 1954 RI FSR STRATOCASTER...

For sure cool that they make the parts- wonder if they're Bakelite. I'd be tempted to try a3 singles and 100k pots in that guitar ;)

Re: NGD - Fender MIJ 1954 RI FSR STRATOCASTER...

I don't think it's one piece. I think I see what looks like a joint/ break on the upper half of the body, lining up with the fifth saddle.

Re: NGD - Fender MIJ 1954 RI FSR STRATOCASTER...

^^I thought I saw that too, but I think it's just the grain pattern.

I guess anything is possible, I don’t see the seam. I’ll post a higher resolution photo.

Thanks everyone for your help and comments. I still think I got a great feeling (love the thin taper v neck) and sounding axe. I even think the finish compares well with another guitar of mine that’s worth several times as much.
