NGD - Fender MIJ 1954 RI FSR STRATOCASTER...

Re: NGD - Fender MIJ 1954 RI FSR STRATOCASTER...

If that had knob pointers, I woulda thought I made that guitar and forgot about it. You planning on doing any hot rodding under the hood? Treble bleeds, Greasebucket, or any trickery with the 3rd tone lug?

nope...just rocking the Little 59 through my Marshalls. Usually, with Strats, I only get the volume knob hooked up and I get all other elements removed, but this time I decided to keep the rest with the old school wiring while I work on occasionally stretching myself into playing some on the other pickups (those other pickups are Lindy Fralin Real 54's so they're just perfect for this guitar). I had to get that volume knob moved, because I play with my fingers hanging down and they slap into the volume knob causing discomfort as well as unintentional volume changes.

Holy crap! That is very nice, congratulations! The fact that she bought this for you makes it completely clear to me why you married her!

Re: NGD - Fender MIJ 1954 RI FSR STRATOCASTER...

Beautiful guitar! I, too, prefer the 1 Volume and 1 Tone knob setup. That top volume knob always gets in my way. Congrats on your HNGD! And I'm sure there are many members here that are jealous at how cool your wife is.

Good luck with it. I bought my girlfriend the same guitar recently, a 2013 MIJ ST-54. It also has that great finish and feel except ours had vintage noiseless pups installed when we got it. Now she doesn’t ask to play my ultra or JH tribute any more.

Next weekend I’m going to her place (about 30 miles from here), we sorta alternate weekends, and I plan on taking off the pick guard to check out the internals and confirm it’s a one piece body. I may take the neck off to verify originality. I need to put on new strings for her and do a complete setup so I may as well look inside.

Very cool. Mine’s a 2 piece ash...extremely well bookmatched.

Gorgeous guitar. '54 Strats are my favorite variant of all time. I love the undyed center color on the ash body, and the different knobs, switch tip, pickup covers, and rear vibrato cover plate (though I don't think the MIJ versions use the '54-correct plastic parts). I have the recent AVRI 60th anniversary version of that, and it's killer (only thing that bugs me is that it has modern wiring, with a 5-way switch and the bottom tone control also affecting the bridge pickup – but it came with the parts to wire it like an old Strat). Play it in good health!

MIJ has the wrong parts too...like it’s really a 57RI with an ash body and single circle string tree. I’m getting the correct visual parts for it though. Obviously with the Little 59 in there, I still need what I need. Haha. This thing is such a joy to play!!!!!! It doesn’t fight me at all!

You are indeed a very fortunate individual. A partner that would bless you with such a gift,
the gift itself being absolutely amazing and lastly, the fact that you allowed youselft to seek
and indeed discover perfection.

Win, win, win!

To be clear, the 60th Anniversary AVRI '54 does have the correct early '54 plastic parts. Earlier Fender '54 RIs did not (except for one run of the heavily battered Custom Shop version maybe 6 or 7 years ago), and MIJ '54's never did. This does not take anything away from them as instruments. It's just trivial info.

Yep...and totally agree!!!!!!!

Re: NGD - Fender MIJ 1954 RI FSR STRATOCASTER...

Very nice, congrats! Those MIJ strats arereally good guitars.

Funny, I recently bought a MIJ '57 that was modded and I returned it to standard specs. We all need and like different things, but these MIJ seem to be a good platform for mods.

Re: NGD - Fender MIJ 1954 RI FSR STRATOCASTER...

My Fender Pure Vintage 1954 Accessory Kit came in the mail today (Thank you Chicago Music Exchange!) so now I have the proper era mini-skirt knobs, football shaped toggle top, rounded pickup covers and small hole trem cavity cover. Anyone know of any way for me to make the trem block string holes line up with the holes on the cavity cover? As it stands now I will need to completely remove the cover every time I need to change the strings.

Re: NGD - Fender MIJ 1954 RI FSR STRATOCASTER...

Everything about it looks too classic to be a lil '59 candidate; but nice score.

My thought as well. Very sweet, vintage-y strat!!! Shame to punk it up. But to each his/her own.

Regardless... the OP's wife is a keeper!

Re: NGD - Fender MIJ 1954 RI FSR STRATOCASTER...

Float the bridge? Would tilt the block back.

Any way without floating the bridge? I keep the bridge decked always as I like the feel way more. Plus it's set up that way...5 springs like Clapton. Of course Clapton (and many others) took the cavity cover off for this exact reason, but if there's a way to line it up while maintaining my 5 springs decked bridge setup, I'd prefer it. Otherwise, I guess I'll be removing it every time I change the strings.

My wife is DEFINITELY a keeper...I'm an exceedingly lucky man! Regarding the Little 59. I did everything I could to keep the guitar as vintage looking as possible while getting things set so the guitar can deliver the tone I need.
