I got my RG today, I've been playing since I got home. I did some tweaks on it.
It's gonna take some getting used to, I haven't had a shredder in years. I'm a die hard Les Paul guy.
The first time I put the RG down and grabbed one of my Les Pauls I was like WTH?
This thing is a $2k baseball bat, how the hell have I been playing this for the last few years?
Then I play for a minute and it hits and I get my Les Paul fattness and growl and sustain for days and all is well in my world again. That is a hellish shocker jumping from that wizard neck at 17" radius to my slim taper Gibson neck lol!
Anyway, the RG is beautiful! I'll get some pics posted asap. The neck is wonderful, the edge trim is fantastic!
The pickups haven't grown on me yet Tone Zone, True Velvet and an Air Norton.
I am a die hard Duncan guy. Seymour has always been my go to pickup guy. I just find Duncans very musical and The Dimarzios seem like I have to push them to get out what I want. That's the way these are, I am gonna play them for a bit but I don't like them so far. You know how a hot JB or a Custom the notes just jump off the fretboard? These don't do that. I'm really fighting it. I know it's pickups because my EVH is tone city.
I'm not an effects guy. Guitar, OD pedal, amp = music.. It sounds kinda dead thru my EVH..
Like I said, I'm gonna give it some time, change the strings and experiment with pickup height and pole screws and see what I can do. I hate spending $1200 on a guitar with Dimarzios and having to tank them for Duncans but I'll do it... I've done in on $2k Gibsons..

Yeah, the Tone Zone is weird.. On channel 2 of my EVH it's really bright with the highs on 6 and on channel 3 there is no treble with the highs on 10.

Congrats!!! Id love to have an RG in the stable. I had an amazing old 570, but sold it and one of the 550 reissues too. Just dont play em that much. For shredders Im a Charvel guy..
I totally agree on Dimarzios. I just cant gel with them.. I used a TZ for a long while in my Strat, but she now has a Duncan. IMO, they are great for processed signals, but I like the vibe I get with Duncs better..

As far as the Tone Zone from my experience, the Air Zone is better. It's fat and huge and cuts but isn't harsh. The Tone Zone can act up from time to time. Plus, I like the Super Distortion more or better yet, the Al Di Meola.
