NGD Godin LG P90

Gearjoneser

Gear Ho
Oh man, I'm excited. I've been stopping by some of the GC's in my area, always checking their used gear section, and scored once again.

Last weekend, I scored $650 in T Rex pedals....the Viper vibe and Moller dual mode OD for $96 a piece. The only catch is they're on a police hold for a month.

Tonight, I stopped in at Northridge GC and spotted a killer Godin LG P-90 that's got a great neck. Dead mint with stock US Duncan SP-90's.
I'm guessing the guitar cost $500 - $700, and they had it priced at $175 w/Godin hard shell case.

I've been wanting another P-90 mahogany guitar for years, and there was no way I was passing on this one. Again, I've got to wait a month due to the police hold. Stopping in frequently allows me first dibs on used gear with time to pay the balance. I can't wait till Dec. 15, because I'll be picking up this guitar and two T Rex pedals and only owe $200.

Nice catch. I like the look of those. Very favorable reviews online too.

Re: NGD Godin LG P90

The guitar doesn't have a cheap feel at all, with perfect fret work, mahogany neck, and good hardware. I couldn't believe when I looked at the tag and it said it included a HSC.

I even borrowed the tech's tools and gave it a dialed in setup as I was demoing it. It looks like a nicely cut bone nut as well.

This 30 day waiting period is going to kill me. LOL

Re: NGD Godin LG P90

Gotta love that brass plate for the string anchor. Sustain for days it is.

There's a few things in this guitar's design that accounts for the high ratings it's gotten.

The bridge and pickups are sunk deeper into the body than a Gibson.....more like a tele's height from body to strings.

The strings are coupled straight into the body, with a tune'o'matic type bridge, complete with brass chunk of metal the strings are anchored into.

The single cutaway design, with the neck sunk pretty far into the body gives it good tonal transfer from neck to body.

24 3/4 scale, allowing it to ring like a Gibson with a slinky feel.
I'm putting my regular D'Addario 11's on it.

Opting for US Duncans is a big factor. For $175, I basically paid for it's pickups, not including the whole guitar and case. The neck plays perfectly, like you'd expect from a $1000 + instrument.

This is going to be a month of torture, not being able to bring home the goods. I may have to visit that guitar a couple times before Dec. 15.

Wow that is great looking and the price is out of this world. I have never tried a Godin I have to get out and give one a strum sometime.

Re: NGD Godin LG P90

+1 to what Wattage said, 175 for that is stealing it. I've played a couple of those and they were very, very nice.

Re: NGD Godin LG P90

Lucky you, unbelievable bargain. I played one belonging to a friend a couple of years back and I loved it. I really, really wanted that guitar.

Re: NGD Godin LG P90

There's been a gold one taunting me on eBay UK for quite some time... :)

Cool score Joe

Another couple of these good deals, and im gonna be driven insane with jealousy.
Ah well, whats that they say?..Thou shout not covet thy neighbors goods? Like hell!

Re: NGD Godin LG P90

Man, for $175? Dang dude... you can barely get a decent starter guitar with that money..... enjoy it in good health. :friday:

I've never played a Godin but I'd really love to. Even though I generally gravitate towards more classic designs, I love seeing companies like Godin, who aren't afraid to innovate.

NICE WORK!!

I was in a group a few years back and the other guitar player had 2 of those. One with P-90s and one with buckers...he changed the pickups in the bucker version to Seths but past that play them both stock...used a Blues Deluxe on the clean channel cranked and a FD-2...got a great sound!

Re: NGD Godin LG P90

I woke up this morning, wondering if I was dreaming; buying what felt and sounded like a $1000 guitar for $175 last night. I had to go back today and really put it through it's paces for a couple hours.

I plugged it into a Fender HR Deluxe and Vox AC-30 and really bonded with the guitar. I'm in utter amazement of how good it plays and sounds. It's got a feel that's just about better than any other guitar I've ever played. It's ergonomically perfect for me. My right hand sits just right for hybrid picking like a tele, and it sounds better than any Gibson Special or Jr. I've picked up at a store. The neck is amazing. It's a full C mahogany neck with 16" radius, so it plays really fast....like a Suhr tele or something.

Another bonus was the Schaller strap buttons, so I don't need to fuss with buying those. And the pickups and electronics are just perfect. I really want to know what's in the bridge position.
The website says Duncan SP-90's, but I get the feeling the bridge may be a II or III. The bridge pickup flat out rocks, but still sounds sweet. The neck and middle positions are simply beautiful. I'm sure I got a good one, because it's really light and resonant, with nice wood throughout. It think the tuners have real ebony too.

Overall, this looks to be a primary player. I'm in love with it already. It's so comfortable to play and sounds huge. I have to find out exactly which Duncans are in it, because it's a perfectly calibrated set for blues rock. I doubt I'll change anything on this guitar.

Re: NGD Godin LG P90

You know how stupid Guitar Center can be. I hope they don't sell it eventhough you have it on Layaway. I know that's been known to happen. I've read a few horror stories of that happening.
