NGD - Gretsch Electro G5230T

Wattage

High Voltologist
Well I figured I was getting something Gretsch, wanted 'trons in something again, this wasn't far off from what I was thinking about initially and was a nice find in the used section at the local.

Gave it a quick setup and it's golden

Pickups are fantastic and the wife loves the color....so all win at this point.

Scott if I ever hit the lottery I will give you a budget and let you guitar shop for me. Your taste in guitars is always right in my wheelhouse. Beautiful score once again.

Dats called "Money Green" bro.

Nice nice Gretsch. Bigsby. Trons. Les Paul-sized electromatic body. Thumbnail inlays. Tone control. (I've found the tone control more usable than the 'tone switch' some Gretsch's have.)

Even better: Cadillac Green.

Let's go! LOL

This thing is fantastic! 2 hr rehearsal tonight and it aced the audition. It's not super light in spite of the chambering but it was really comfortable. Far better guitar than my early 90's MIJ DuoJet for sure. The blacktop 'Trons have a pretty good rep for a reason, they are legit. Ran it thru my Orange DT and they are definitely made to go together.

I put on D'Addario strap buttons so I used one of the stock screw off buttons as the toggle switch tip instead of the tiny one they have normally.

Thanks all

That's a wonderful guitar.. I've played a few and I love the way the trons cut through but they still have plenty of depth and warmth. And anything with a bigsby has to be fun!

Yeah thanks ZS it really is a very sweet guitar so far, I am really digging these BT 'Trons too.

The only kind of weak point IMO is the bridge, it is the same cheap-o ABR with a wire style that all Asian imports seem to use, I pull those bridges off of Epi's all the time, the saddles are too tall and they are low/mid-level quality machining so they rattle a bit too much and they tend to develop burrs pretty easily.

I have a decent roller bridge coming in that should take care of that and be a little more friendly with the Bigsby.

Doc I guess I was expecting it to be like the vintage Caddy Green, I love the color regardless of what they call it.

Yeah, I never liked those ABR bridges and replaced nearly all of them that I had. The roller bridge should be a great improvement, esp with the Bigsby.
Whether or not the color is the same as the Caddy, it is a gorgeous guitar and capable of some totally fantastic tones.
