NGD ! Hamer XT Sunburst Flametop with Wilkinson Trem

I love it, haven't put it through it's paces yet, but what I have done makes me very happy. Came from the factory setup the way I like it. The flame is pretty sweet. I am amazed at the quality and finish for 375 bucks!

I have the equivalent fixed bridge model. It came with covered USA Duncans - JB and 59.

If you want to bring yourself back down to earth, take a look in any of the routed cavities.

Enjoy your new guitar and save for the USA version. You will never look back. Although the USA with a Floyd might be a little rare now that I think about it. OOH even more reason you would NEED to save should one come along. They would be out there though.

The Crafted In Indonesia Hamers are extremely playable guitars. Some of the pickup offerings are disappointing but easily changed. The nagging feeling remains, if the budget model is this good, what must the American version be like? (Same goes for the G&L Tribute series versus USA production.)

Re: NGD ! Hamer XT Sunburst Flametop with Wilkinson Trem

while the imports from Hamer were a cut above most of their competition due to the extra attention given to setup, frets,.etc. , the USA models are a significant step up in quality of build, quality of wood, quality of hardware, and quality of tone compared to the imports. Handbuilt by a master craftsman with hand picked old growth properly aged toneswoods vs. Mass CNC production of quick dried inexpensive faux and/or lower quality young farmed wood.

If that is a Hamer Slammer Series it is from a decent import time period for Hamer.

It would be hilarious if it was the same one I saw at the Morse Rd. Guitar Center about 8 years ago. if it is Serial number 444443 it is, and I wish I had bought it. :smack:

I am not used to giving technical reviews, I will just describe what I did and heard.

through my Vibrolux on the Normal channel volume at 4, everything else at 5, no reverb
Neck pickup is a little muddy but not too bad, mid position is a nice compromise, good balance of tone, bridge position is an ass kicker.

Turned volume up to 6 and this thing was howling. At the higher volume the neck pickup seemed to lose some of it's muddiness, or maybe I was just bleeding from my ears ;)
All positions improved at the higher volume, the bridge was almost in the ballpark of my LP JB bridge, really raunchy..
I then kick on my Suhr Riot pedal at mid level distortion and almost blew the windows out of my basement. My son was 2 floors up and said the house was shaking and it sounded great.
I don't think I am going to need to change the pups in this, it is right where I want it.

I could not be happier, this is the first new guitar I have purchased in 10 years, glad I did it

Looking forward to the review!

As mentioned earlier, my example left the factory with covered US-made JB and '59n pickups. Yours could be Duncan Designed. HB101 = '59 style. HB102 = JB/Jazz style. HB103 = Distortion style. Cure for muddy neck/Rhythm PU is A4 magnet. Enjoy.

Just heard back from Hamer, the Duncan Designed in this guitar are emulating the SH-6 Duncan Distortion
