NGD - Help Me Decide On HH Look

Just picked up this sweet little 2012 American Standard Strat. I want to convert it to an HH configuration with a Custom Custom/Jazz or Seth Lover set. My thoughts were a cream pearl, white pearl or black pearl pickguard. I'm not sure if I want matching color pickups, nickel covered, or mis-matched pickups. Your thoughts?

black pickguard, white pickups.

Looks classy.

I have a black pearl pickguard on my white hardtail strat, with white pickups and it looks super sexy

I played one of these yesterday at GC felt good. I almost forgot how good single coils can sound also forgot how trebly they were. Only thing I hated was the trem set up and nut. Just the slightest touch threw it out of tune

Two nickel covered humbuckers with a single-ply white guard would be the way I'd go.

I like the pearloid on white. That's my Jimmie Lee Vaughan Strat with a Duncan in the bridge.

That looks pretty sweet, and I like that you changed the input jack dish to black as well.

Luckily this one came out of the box perfectly setup with a fairly low action and great intonation. The pickups, in fact, sound very fat and even in bridge position don't have an overbearing treble. These pickups have a fat low end, scooped mids, and a slightly tapered treble.

Parchment guard, black knobs!!

I too like the simple look and considered staying with a plain white pickguard. I do like the black knobs, and it would look cool all white but with black knobs and pickups. I think the Richie Blackmoore model looks like that.

I like the nickel covered look too but for some reason, nickel covered humbuckers don't look as impressive on a strat as they do on a Les Paul. Dimarzio has some awesome looking covers so if I switch to Dimarzio pickups, I might even be able to get funky with it. Maybe like some cammo covers or matte black.

I really like the pearloid pickguard, but I think I'm leaning more towards the cream pearl instead of the white pearl. I'm thinking that I'll go that route, age the knobs, and leave the guitar in front of the window every day to get a little tan. In fact, I had a strat just like it that I left in front of the window for several months and it got a little tanned on the neck and the paint started looking a little more yellow than when I first got it.

On a side note, this thread is giving me serious wood.

White strats = teh hawtness

Re: NGD - Help Me Decide On HH Look

I think nickel covers look good on a strat. I'd rock a white pearloid guard with covered buckers.

Re: NGD - Help Me Decide On HH Look

This thread is making me weep over my old white MIM strat, twas my first guitar...should snatch one up....

Re: NGD - Help Me Decide On HH Look

White, like black is an easy color to color-match, however I think I like the black pus/knobs - white guard look the best.

Whatever works best for you though man, it'll look good regardless.

Re: NGD - Help Me Decide On HH Look

In most cases I find that pearl guards are too flashy. I'm in a rock band, not backing Liberace.

I would go black guard, white pickups, or white guard, black pickups.

Re: NGD - Help Me Decide On HH Look

The Liberace idea was actually pretty cool... Definitely not in a gay way, but all decked out in gold covered pickups, gold hardware and gold pearloid pickguard. It would look like total rock and roll royalty.

Re: NGD - Help Me Decide On HH Look

My vote is for a 3 ply white guard, double cream or nickel humbuckers, and aged white knobs.

Or, a 3 ply parchment guard with black pickups and knobs.

If it were mine, it would have the stock white guard, aged white covers/knobs, and a Surfer Custom set with Eric Johnson wiring. My silverburst strat is set up more like your intended idea....it's got a C/59 Hybrid and Hot Rails neck with a volume and 3 way toggle. That's a good rock set for a strat.
