Re: NGD - I thought the major was a lady......Double Jet!

So this guitar has been a little buggy for me. It turned out to have a little wiring issue which I took care of easy enough but it reared it's head at the first gig I used it for I was so pissed. I ended up being on the fence about the 'trons that it came with, there is something not quite right about them, they are not very open sounding at all. I looked at the TV Jones versions and while doing that got kind of intrigued with the T_Armond he sells. I ended up getting it for the bridge to see how I liked it. It's worked out pretty well so eventually I'll swap the neck out too. The stuffiness totally disappeared with the TVJ and while it's a bit quirky I'm starting to appreciate this one a lot more.

I think when I do the neck pickup I am going to re-wire with better electronics probably eliminate the master vol too. I thought I would like that better than I do but I keep turning it off and reaching for the wrong vol knob.....

Glad you were able to figure out part of the issue! I think upgrading the electronics when swapping out the neck pickup would be a good thing. Enjoy!

It does spend a lot of time out of the bag on the stand 'cause it's so nice to look at ;)

That's hot.
I've had a couple "real" Gretsches (a "Rally" and a "Country Gentleman", both "Baldwin era" made) and they were not real well made, and full of problems. I have a '06 MIC "Corvette" and it's fantastic! The newer Gretsches are light-years better made, very consistent (the old ones were a bunch of dogs, and a few absolutely stellar, world class ones, the new ones are pretty much all as good as each other)
I have TV Jones "T-90" pups in my Vette. I thought about T-armonds but ended up with the 90's because I'm such a nerd for them. Everybody online kept raving about the "Mega Tron" pup my Vette came with, but I never really liked it. It wasn't "bad", but I never thought more than "Meh" about them. Even thru a friend's fancy amps.
What mount did your Armonds use? It seems Gretsch used 14 different mounting styles, and TVJ makes most of their pups in all the different mount styles. I didn't want to rout up my Vette, so I had to get my 90s made in that mount, but it wasn't difficult or anything.

The T-Armond I got used the NE mount and it had a little adapter plate with it that I used, still had to mod that a little too.

I've played some funky Gretsch's before, old ones always seem to need to have the neck reset/re-glued.
