NGD Ibanez Falchion

A newly designed extreme weapon that embodies cutting edge.
The Falchion gets its name from a single-edge European sword to signify the 3-D, extra-pointy look of the crystal cut body. The deep crystal cut on the neck joint gives you greater access to upper frets while the thin and fast Wizard III neck ensures articulate fleet-fingered sweeping.

The high output CAP-LZ humbuckers sucked. Until I went to work on them.

First, I got rid of this crap:

and wired in a nine volt battery following the Seymour Duncan Blackouts wiring diagram. Now they actually sound good, and I may end up leaving them in the guitar now. Definitely doing some very serious rocking out.

Re: NGD Ibanez Falchion

Seen these kooky metal guitars like the Falchion, Halberd and the others, but no one playing them. So, how is it ergonomically etc.? What was the preamp supposed to do - boost or something?

See you've got black strings :). Now ebonize that fingerboard to complete the look.

I do like the inlay free neck and reverse headstock \m/.

It plays well both sitting down and standing up. I've had a couple Flying V's and other "metal" shapes, but none that worked out as well as this shape does. The neck feels good, the body is a nice weight, plays good, feels good.

I'm not sure exactly, but at first I wired in the 9volt with that little preamp thing still in there and that did not work at all... So whatever is was supposed to do before, it's trash now.

Now ebonize that fingerboard to complete the look.
That sounds fun, how do I do that?

Yes me too! :headbang:

Re: NGD Ibanez Falchion

Oooo I sure made a funny sound when I saw that pic pop up.

That thing is quite sexy, sir! Congrats!

Re: NGD Ibanez Falchion

About ebonizing, just type 'ebonizing rosewood fingerboard' into Google and it'll throw up lots of stuff. Process works well with woods that are dark to begin with; I'm thinking of doing this to my two all black guitars.

2k posts, damn, I hang around here too much :P.

Huh? They buggered up the wiring in such precise fashion that it DID work, but just NOT optimally? Whoa... Bit of a challenge for an active circuit. How?? Did they accidentally do parallel when they wanted series, for a 4x undernourished voltage??!!

It was decent (the AA batteries may have been low in power) but once I changed it out to 9 volt and followed the SD wiring diagram it really came alive. It now has the clarity and brutality that I was looking for.

I'm not usually all that crazy about these style of designs, but that one is cool. I like.

Perhaps because you wired 9-volts to where 3-volts used to be. :D

(That battery holder looks like it was meant for two AAA cells.)

Yes, that is what I did. And it sounds much much better operating at 9 volts.

(It was two AA's)
