Hey guys
Got this beauty a couple of days ago.

B-stock from thomann plus a gotoh 1996 trem (total equals the regular price, including a great trem).
Didn't drill to use the gotoh posts, instead used schaller posts which fit the insert.

A few hours of setup and fret polish and it now feels like a 1000 eur + guitar !

Here's a demo:

Thanks for the responses!
I'm no shredder and rhe neck is alien to me as well. My other guitars are a les paul and a strat.
However it's not as thin as some other ibanez necks for example the rg 550.

Happy New Guitar Day! Now you need to swap out those Quantum bridge and neck pickups with a JB/Jazz set in pink neon, you will notice a massive tone improvement. Pink Duncans are the best sounding pickups full stop.
Nice playing btw 🙂

Thanks for the compliment!
Actually those are infinity pickups and I like them!
I'm sure duncans are better, maybe in the future...

Well done, that guy. As an Ibanez fan, I'm still hanging out for a pink one :D. It is thoughtful of Ibanez to offer pink and yellow under 1k, they should do green as well though, to complete the trifecta.

Gotohising is arguably a game changer with many of these - the 'Standard DL' trem and its predecessor, the Lo TRS II, don't have the longevity and toughness, especially when you're used to a quality bridge.

Necks on these are indeed bigger than Japanese Jems. I have an old RG320 and the neck on that too is a tad bigger and rounder than the Japanese Wizard, as you find on the old ones, or the newer Genesis and other Prestige models. Definitely prefer the girthier thing.

Don’t go backward with pickups. Mahogany body?
The first consideration is getting that guitar set up and playing at its best.
Find a great luthier that can squeeze, file, and polish the last ounce of performance out of it, and live with those pickups, at least for a while.
If you really want to change - then consider later buying a used real Jem FLO lookalike in the $1500 range, with Evolutions.
Or eventually going full hog and grabbing a used Pia at $2300. That gets you the Utopias.

The woods have all weird names but I love the feel and sound so I couldn't care less.
This is a great fun guitar especially after the Gotoh upgrade!
The pickups are staying on at least for a while.

Mahogany just means “Dark Red Wood”.
Play it till your fingers bleed, then superglue them and play some more - like I do.
Don’t upgrade it any more.
When it’s time to change the frets, then seriously consider buying a top-line Jem to replace it.

An unexpected update:
The Gotoh trem was not returning to pitch as well as I had hoped.

So I removed it and checked the knife edges.
This brand new trem had burrs on both kife edges that I could feel with my fingernails!!

I lightly filed them and then polished with fret polishing rubber.
Now it's much better.
