NGD: Ibanez Roadcore 330T

I've been looking for a new project guitar and came across and open box Ibanez 330T for a price that I could partscaster it out and feel good about it. It's basically a strat configured small jaguar-ish shaped body. It came in last night and I was nicer than expected. About the only thing I didn't like was the tremolo system. I'm not a tremolo user, so I'll either put a hardtail bridge or block this one up.

The one thing that surprised me was the pickups are noiseless. I was really surprised how quite it was, more than my humbuckers or my Jag in the middle position. This isn't a very well advertised feature of the guitar. They don't sound bad either. Still, a JB jr. will be the first real mod I make:D

After some searching this was all I could find on these pups: "Thanks to special hum-cancelling coils mounted in the body's cavity route, between the bridge and neck pickups, CORE-TONE S single coil pickups deliver clear, noiseless, traditional tone."

Does anyone know anything about this type of noise cancellation system? Is the whole system integrated? Can you change just one put (w/o changing the tone of the new pup)?

I had one of those guitars briefly and was also surprised by how good and quiet the pickups were. They weren't top shelf Strat pickups, but definitely usable.

It looks like the system has *2* dummy coils? Very interesting.

This thread tempts me to pick up one of these guitars again.

Yep, 2 coils. If you're patient you can get these on the cheap now. I'm probably going to put on a Warmoth gibson scale conversion neck in the future.

Before it arrived I was thinking something like an everything axe pickup set for it. Now I'm wondering what would happen if I would remove the coil between the middle and bridge and put in a sc sized humbucker like a JB jr in the bridge? Would the middle be noiseless? Half noiseless?

I've heard talk of home made systems like this, but never heard of one on an OEM guitar. I wonder how it compares to the standard stacked noiseless single coils? Or if i swapped out to top shelf regular strat set?
