NGD. Incoming build

Re: NGD. Incoming build

I’m looking forward to your review once you receive it.

Maybe you posted already, but what pickups are in it?

It hasn't arrived yet
Probably another 2 or three weeks out
The pickups are probably some inexpensive Chinese brand
I'm gonna try them then probably put this other set of JB/JAZZ I got in a box in
I have a piezo for the bridge

I'll make a video when i have it all together

Re: NGD. Incoming build

It's here

Took it to my buddy's house to try it out

The string pull wasn't exactly straight as I had wanted
But it'll be fine

For some reason they didn't use the locking tuners the way I would have expected

Re: NGD. Incoming build

The black binding give a hard edge to the side

The back is beautiful and the body is super thin and light

I like the ridge at the headstock
It's not in the way at all

The body is about an inch and a quarter thick at the edge
Super thin much thinner than either my Ibanez RGs or Gibson/Epiphone LP

Really light I would say about 7.5 - 8 lbs

Pickups are a bit dark.
Fretwork is excellent
They have a hole under the bridge to the pickup cavity
For the piezo bridge
The volume pot as a nice gradual taper
Neck is a shallow D
Not as thin as my Epiphone or RG
But very near my slim D on my Gibson

Balances well
Just awesome
Next week or so I'll swap out the bridge
And pickups
Because I can. Not because I dont like the ones in it

Re: NGD. Incoming build

Re: NGD. Incoming build

Oh yeah, I'm taking that when you're not looking.
Wonderful. It's a looker for sure. The binding gives it a real nice seperation.

A sharp edge from the fade of the top to the red on back

It is so thin

I was playing just before bed and the pickups sound awesome

I have some clips I gotta upload of my buddy playing it Thursday

It sounds much brighter on my setup than his

Definitely do that if you can. I’d love to hear it.

Not sure if you already did, but could you post a link to where you ordered that from?

Re: NGD. Incoming build

They wrapped the strings around the posts several times as if they were non locking

Oh, I get it.

That's the way I do it so the strings can be loosened, but not removed, to do pup changes, etc. If you cut the strings right at the tuning post, you'll have a heck of a time trying to get the strings back in after removing them (presuming you want to save the strings).

Re: NGD. Incoming build

I usually get just less than one wrap .but it's ok
Takes a bit for all that string to stretch out
It showed up "down tuned half a step"
And after sitting a day , last night it was down tuned again
Just more string to stretch

Re: NGD. Incoming build

Ok here's a cellphone video of the stock pickups
No mods at all from the factory

Played thru the Bugera G5
At first I had the Biyang Tri Reverb in front with some amp reverb as well
Turned that off as you see in the video

I dont play that well but you get a sense of how it sounds

I'm kinda digging the stock pickups at the moment

Re: NGD. Incoming build

ehdwuld, I've noticed on these Asian guitars that you have done you have very specific details in mind. How is communication with these people? Is there a language barrier, or do you speak a bit Mandarin? I find this process very interesting, and possibly something I may wish to try one day. I'm just leery of would my specifications be understood, and would they deliver on my expectations? You seem to have that worked out though.

Re: NGD. Incoming build

Well it seems some of them use Google translate to read your text and to put their responses back in

One asked if I wanted a maple hat on the guitar

You have to use common words

Speak simply

Use pictures with arrows and such

Make sure they understand, they really want to make it exactly how you want
Make sure that they have enough to go on

Ask for pictures along the way, in case something goes wrong
On this current build
The logo on the headstock got tinted red by mistake
It was caught and corrected before shipment

Re: NGD. Incoming build

By the way that's the Warehouse Speaker Veteran 30
That's in the Eminence cabinet
The one from Steve (80's Metal)
