You might like the stock pickups. I've seen shootouts with the stock ceramics and for rock/overdriven stuff, they can be great. Kinda depends on which Squier it is and when it was made. Definitely try it out first
What model Squier strat is he giving you? Some Squiers have decent pickups like Vintage Modified were Duncan Designed. I have a Bullet strat which has nice pickups.
It's a Squire Affinity. Fret ends are a little sharp but it doesn't sound too bad. A bit on the bright side, but I think that's partly due to the new strings. Other than that everything works.
If you're willing to pay shipping I will send you the spare set of Fleor pickups I have and the two Squire A3 pickups that people think are Tonerider Surfari's.
