NGD Les Paul Classic Antique

Re: NGD Les Paul Classic Antique

Probably the closest you'd get to SG tone would be with one of the all-mahogany flat body LPs (sans maple cap), like the old Firebrand.

I used to have a 1975 Reissue of the '55 Special, single cut, mahogany, P-90s; a friend had a mid-1960s SG Special. My guitar had a bigger, fatter tone than his SG...though some of that was probably pickups. The SG was lighter and had a thinner body, but it was lighter and thinner tonally as well.

I'm told that chambered Historics sound very close to lightweight solid models. I've never had my hands on one, so...?

I think a couple of guys on the forum have the Les Paul Custom Lite model, and they may be a better source than I.

Nice! Something heavier? Like maybe a Mayhem set?

I was thinking maybe a custom/jazz set but I'm not familiar with the newer pickups - I've been out of the game for too long. I'll make a thread now.

My swampash Gibson Les Paul is super light

Ok this has no bearing on anything pertaining to this thread
But I just wanted to rub it in
I got a Gibson made Swamp ash Les Paul
Omg

That's a sweet guitar man
Play it loud
They like it like that

Re: NGD Les Paul Classic Antique

I don't know if there is an average with the huge variance in mahogany weight. That being said, I've played chambered LPs that were as light as a Stratocaster ~7.5lbs.

I just finished building a chambered LP that's less than 7 1/2 lbs.

I just finished building a chambered LP that's less than 6 lbs 12 oz..

I've got another solid LP that's just over 10 lbs.

Needless to say, I like to play the one I built better than the neck-breaker (even though it sounds amazing).

Beautiful guitar. I have a 2000 classic in honeyburst (see my avatar) and it's one of my favorite colors ever. The thing I absolutely love about these antiques is the crown inlay on the headstock. For some reason I absolutely LOVE that little detail. congrats!

I do too!! Marq Torien (sp?) of the Bullet Boys plays a blue one with crown on the headstock and it is such a hot guitar

I recently started playin again also. I love this site for all the excellent advice and beautiful pics. The only problem is I want all the stuff I once had. I always loved the sound of the single p90 on my first guitar ( a les paul junior with the SG body style ). Oh well....

Closest in an LP shape I've to an SG-like vibe was an old Melody Maker with 'buckers in it.
