NGD (Les Paul Content).

Re: NGD (Les Paul Content).

Plsu I didn't like the fact it had hallow spots.

if that Deluxe is a normal production studio-style guitar, it's chambered...i.e. mostly hollow :smokin:

at the very least, it's got the same "hollow spots" as the other Les Paul you played did -- every single Les Paul besides custom shop reissues have had the 'swiss cheese holes' drilled into them to cut down on the weight since 1987 and probably before then.

not to burst your bubble or anything -- it's pretty much agreed that the weight relief holes don't hurt your tone...in fact they had been doing it since the 80's and nobody cared about it until like 2005 when those X-ray pix surfaced online...

congrats on the Gibson bro :smokin:

Yea it was swiss cheese holes, however the silver burst had hollow spot. Like you knock on the wood and hear empty unlike mine.

The silverburst had this going on......

where as mine had the swisscheese thing going on. Still feels solid. 7 pds heavier than the other studio. PLus like I said when you knock on mine you don't hear a hollow sound.

Are you sure?

I mean, my traditional is about 12 pounds, and it's a pretty heavy guitar when you rock it. That either means you have a 14 pound studio, or the other was like 5 pounds....

It's a sweet guitar, I'm just a little incredulous at this suppose difference in weight.

Re: NGD (Les Paul Content).

I'll weigh my axe tonight. There was a very noticeable difference. The silverburst model felt like an ESP LTD EC1000 weightwise - it was very light.

Re: NGD (Les Paul Content).

Throwing on some brand new strings, some ELixir 10s. What string brand and gauge you all use?

Re: NGD (Les Paul Content).

I have been using Dunlop Z. Wylde 10-46 for a couple years now. I like them. They are higher tension strings and they stay in tune remarkably well. A couple monthe ago I tried some vintage nickle strings (can't remember for sure what brand they were, so I don't want to mention the wrong ones), but the first set broke a 'B' string at the ball end after a week. The second set I put on has been on for nearly three months and can't stay in tune for more than two songs. Just put on some more Wyldes last weekend and they're staying in tune now.

I tried several brands of coated strings and just couldn't get along with them. They feel too slippery or something making it hard to do 1 to 1 1/2 note bends. If you don't do big bends, then I guess they feel pretty comfortable.

Re: NGD (Les Paul Content).

Loving this axe, not really feeling the 490R neck pickup. Pretty muddy. Any thoughts on what to do?
