NGD: McCarty soapbar, with bonus pics and PSA

The attention to detail on my McCarty is just amazing. The finish, even on the fretboard binding and the clear "binding" around the body is aged and yellowed to look like an old classic guitar from the 50's.

The guitar had been hanging at my local GC for a few years, and I remember first seeing it and it stood out from among the other guitars hanging near it. After getting it home, I noticed PRS even shot the back of the guitar with a subtle darker burst around the outside, and a lighter red in the middle.
The neck profile is incredibly comfortable, but not quite like any other guitar I've played.
The guitar is noticeably lighter than my other instruments.
The soapbar pickups give me great gritty, smoky blues tones.
PRS once again hit the ball out of the park with this guitar.

And last, a heads up: It looks like Guitar Center stores all over the US are clearing out PRS guitars. If you've ever wanted to max out your GC credit card and get a PRS, now is a great time.

It looks like a number of models introduced 4 or 5 years ago are no longer in the PRS line. The PRS products page on their site doesn't list the 305, the DC3, the NF3, and probably a few others that they introduced in the last few years anymore.
GC still has these guitars hanging around. The serial numbers on a 305, these McCarty's, and the DC3 in the photos, all bought since November, indicate that they're all from 2009-2010.
GC is clearing out guitars that have been hanging there for 4-5 years. My, those years go by quick, don't they? My local GC, while putting those instruments in the photos on clearance, has gotten in a bunch of S2 PRS's, and a gorgeous new PRS Studio.

Yeah. That is one of the nicest "Strats that isn't a Strat" that I've ever played. Amazing feel.

Yeah, I can't believe GC is ditching PRS. It must be difficult to sell high end guitars nowadays, especially ones that have been handled by a hundred looky loos.

But if you've ever wanted a new PRS, now is the time to buy.

I've owned a couple PRS guitars, a rare Custom 24 with the wraparound Hardtail Bridge, Whale Blue Flame 10 Top, sold it years ago and made a decent profit to help fund my wife's engagement ring. And the other was a 1998 CE24 with a Black to Red burst with the Trem Bridge..which was ok...bought it on a whim because the price was good.

I've been GASing hard for a McCarty with P90's... I need P90 goodness in my life again. Time to list some gear...

That's true. The scarlet smokeburst McCarty in the pic (bought in January) was flawless, as was the 305 I got in November. But since I got those, my local GC moved the NOS PRS's out of the Platinum room and hung them on one of the walls of the sales floor. They told me they sold a few of them real fast that way. But they suffer some shopwear out there.

That headstock is a little like a Santana . . . very cool, although I've never had a problem with the Gumby headstocks either. Awesome guitar !

That's right. I guess this was a limited edition instrument. It has the Santana headstock.

The dyed flame maple headstock face is also unusual for PRS. Typically it'd be either rosewood or painted black.

I think this is the model: DC245 Soapbar

This brand new limited production model features a 24.5 scale length, fat neck carve, bound fingerboard, old style MOP bird inlays, and the incredibly toneful PRS Soapbar pickups.

The one with P90's does have a shorter scale length than my McCarty Narrow Field (in the photos above). The one with Narrow Fields has the regular 25" scale length I would expect.
