Re: NGD! MXR Carbon Copy!

It's a good one! Every CC I see seems like a different shade of green to me. They all sound fantastic though.

Re: NGD! MXR Carbon Copy!

Hey I have one of those.

It's my "now I'm standing on top of a mountain in a cave in outer space" button.

Re: NGD! MXR Carbon Copy!

It's a little gem. Really glad I picked one up when I bought into the hype as soon as they were released.

Re: NGD! MXR Carbon Copy!

It's sort of my baseline "sweet delay" sound that I judge others against. Without qualification, money well-spent, which I can't say about many effects I own.

Re: NGD! MXR Carbon Copy!

It's one of those special pedals, I've had plenty of other delay pedals over the years, I've had even far 'better' delay pedals by all means, but yet the Carbon Copy hasn't ever left my board. You can set the mix and regen down low and use it as a subtle echo/reverb, or you can set it much higher for all sorts of crazy sounds on the upper ends of the regen. It's just such a useful pedal to have.

Re: NGD! MXR Carbon Copy!

I like it, but i noticed that it makes your original guitar sound a bit thinner. You'll see what i mean if you turn all the knobs down so that the delays are inaudible, then switch the pedal on and off. If it didn't do that i would love it unreservedly.

Re: NGD! MXR Carbon Copy!

Hey, all you CC lovers. I'm looking for a second delay for my board. One requirement is, it MUST be MXR-sized, so obviously the CC qualifies. As a long time DD-3 user, I'm worried about the CC's reputation for being "dark". Is it really that dark, or is it just another slightly different voice that will contrast nicely with my DD?

I've also heard it's brighter at shorter delay times. If I'm using is mostly for slapback and the occasional 300-millisecond-ish echo, will the darkness become a non-problem?

flashback delay would be good!

If your looking analog in that size, you really only have a few choices, the CC, the new Boss Waza Craft Dm-2, and Ibanez analog delay (which it looks like they discontinued?) off the top of my head. Analog delays are 'darker' because the sound 'degrades' as the repeats continue, starting by chopping off the high end. Personally, unless going for "the edge" type sounds, I much prefer the more natural sounding analog delay. digital can be harsh and abrasive sometimes. Every time I use my digital delay (for flexibility purposes and long delay times) its always on some sort of analog or tape settings.

For slapback I'd say the analog will be better as it will 'stay out of the way' more and sits better with your original signal. I believe all the pedals I listed above can do 300ms, I do know the ibanez has the shortest of the three.

I use the CC for slapback delay all the time. I'm in a country band, so it's actually set to a short slap delay more than a longer delay.

If you are looking for a small footprint slapback delay, it's hard to beat the Mooer AnaEcho. It's a clone of the Boss DM-2, does a great slapback sound and is very very small and usually can be had for $50-60 on ebay.

Re: NGD! MXR Carbon Copy!

Honestly, one of the all time greats at this point….

Boss DM3

Ibanez AD9

and now….MXR Carbon Copy

Re: NGD! MXR Carbon Copy!

I loves my carbon copy. when I used to play in a band I used to occasionally crank the regen, then I would hit a note and play with the delay knob. as long as it didn't get out hand its can produce all type of funky yet cool spacey echo tones. drove the singer nuts know that I thank about it maybe that was why I did it to get under his skin. well pretty cool either way. awesome pedal

The darkness isn't that noticeable, especially at short times. I replaced a DD6 with my CC and I prefer the sound hands down. It's more lush and organic. My tone seems to have more dimension to it. But if you want alternatives I'd look into the EHX Memory Boy. It's really the only other similar sized analog delay in the price range of the CC.

Yeah, I've always wondered why the CC gets all the props, and the Memory Toy goes almost unnoticed. For what it is, the CC seems awfully expensive. Just thirty bucks more gets you into boutique territory , like the Disaster Transport Jr. or Belle Epoche, if I'm not mistaken.

Or Memory Boy Deluxe which even has tap tempo and the option of overclocking. Fun for those into weird ring mod tones.
