NGD! My token mahogany double-hum guitar.

Re: NGD! My token mahogany double-hum guitar.

Aaaaaand...

The Gravelins are in DA HOUSE.

I think I'll take my time, set up the recording gear, and make before & after clips, so I probably won't get around to installing them until tomorrow.

Josh Gravelin's pickups KICK ASS. I just told him I wanted that "Budokan snarl" and the colors I wanted it in. He took care of the rest. The bridge pickup cuts like crazy. I love that I got the guitar back to the old late'70s look, too. I still need to upgrade the pots and switch, and I want to change the knobs to speed knobs. I can't get a grip on the dinky little witch hats.

Re: NGD! My token mahogany double-hum guitar.

Here are some clips. I played both with my DIY 18 Watter clone, through an H&K Red Box with the cab sim on, direct into my Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 interface. Both guitars recorded at the same amp settings. No EQ or effects added in the DAW, and both tracks were rendered at the same volume settings.

Before: No-name Asian pickups. 15k bridge, 14k neck, probably ceramic. Dang, my little Marshall clone can make anything sound good.

After: Josh Gravelin's pickups. Looser due to the A5 magnet, but less compressed since it's not driving the amp as hard. Still, it cuts better. Love that snarl, and the classic '70s Hamer look.
