NGD. New lifetime keeper. So stoked!

Re: NGD. New lifetime keeper. So stoked!

I'm not super-hyped on that flat finish-thats woulda been a deal killer for me.The pickup configuration is perfect though.I was about to build a Tele with Filterton styles, not a bad idea, but then I figured they demand a semi hollow. Now I have my TV jones ( what a jerk that guy is) pickups in a box awaiting a semi hollow body to put them into.

The flat satin finish has become my favorite thing about the guitar. The entire guitar is smooth as a baby's butt, and makes it a joy to pick up and play. That's one thing I came to appreciate, which I didn't fully grasp when just trying it out in the store.

The areas that get worked the most will result in a shinier finish, and any scratches will be like shiny marks. It's like the opposite of a glossy guitar, except you can't buff out a scuff. The textured surface may be more delicate, but it does breathe nicely like a thin finish. I'm figuring that the back of the neck will be rubbed glossy, and eventually worn thin in some areas. This is a guitar I plan to play a lot.

This is exactly what I like about the ME Joe, the satin nitro just feels so smooth and natural. As you say, any pressure points, or contact points have started to get shiny and personally I like it. I also think it tones down the bling factor, particularly on a figured top.... again another reason for me liking the satin finish. I agree that your guitar looks ultra cool with those pick ups, and whilst I know you really do take care and have pride in your gear I really hope you play the ass off that one... I'd like to see a chronological photo shoot of a couple of pics per year in about 5 years time to see how much cooler it looks. I'm real happy for you Joe, great that it's hitting the spot!

That is one awesome guitar! In fact, I am so filled with the holiday spirit (or still so full of spirits this holiday) that I don't even hate you with jealousy!

Now, when I sober up, I may resent you. But, man, that is one hot 335!

Normally I don't like flat finishes, but it makes me think of 50s and 60s hot rods. I really like it all put together.

Now Jerry you know you're not allowed to comment on other people's behavior if you were inebriated while speaking to them. I met TV in Dallas at the guitar show earlier this year and he bent over backwards to accommodate me with a purchase there and another when I got home.

Congrats Joe, play the paint off the neck and the poly off the magnet wire!

VERY nice, Jason Lollar makes kick-ass pups, and that is a sweet chieftain! I can't even begin to imagin the sounds coming out of it with that setup!!

Re: NGD. New lifetime keeper. So stoked!

Yeah, the Matchless Chieftain is one of the best sounding clean to midgain amps ever. I hadn't used it for almost a year, because I've been digging into some of my other combos (Fender Pro Reverb, Marshall 4103, and Gibson GA-30RVS). All of them sound great, and yet all different.

If you notice in some of the pics, the grillcloth got discolored from nicotine, sweat, or condensation inside the roadcase. After I took those pics, I brushed the cloth with warm water and upholstery shampoo, towel dried it, and let it sit in the sun. The silver/gray cloth came out looking brand new again.

Re: NGD. New lifetime keeper. So stoked!

Congrats on the guitar...really nice!! In fact I saw a YT clip a month or so ago of Chris Cornell showing off his new line of Gibson ES-335 guitars. I was pretty intrigued by the satin finish and the over-all no-frills look. I think ES-335 guitars are really unique and fun to play, but this model looks like a blast. Those pickups sound wicked and when combined with a hollow body to get those sonic feedback squeals that you've mentioned, it must be pure tonal heaven.:eyecrazy: Enjoy that guitar as much as you can because you only live once.;)

Re: NGD. New lifetime keeper. So stoked!

That is one SWEET lookin guitar. What would look sick in that pic with it is a HD Night Rod!

Re: NGD. New lifetime keeper. So stoked!

I saw #111 in a store today. That satin black is even sexier in person.

Re: NGD. New lifetime keeper. So stoked!

Wild lookin axe. Not sure I've ever tried unpotted pickups, I'd probably like that sound.

Re: NGD. New lifetime keeper. So stoked!

Super Amazing Deal! Price of a Les Paul Standard - 1000x the mojo/cool factor! Agree - super low print makes it extra sweet. Very very cool guitar.

Now Joe, twist the knife....

How does that guitar sound through that MAtchless with say, a touch of T-Rex Viper thrown on? (sound clip if you want to make me cry)
