What are Closet Classics like these days? Much different than an N.O.S.? Looks like they cracked the finish and put a fairly heavy tint on the neck, but not a whole lot else.
What's that bridge?
Is the guard clear coated, or just the plain anodized coating?
It looks like Closet Classic is the finish checking, the neck is tinted, some tarnish/discoloration on the hardware. The bridge is the Fender RSD bridge, it's almost like a cross between a Jazzmaster and Telecaster bridge, the guard is not coated.
NOS is basically a "new" vintage guitar, Closet Classic is like someone played it a few times then stuck it in the case in the back of the closet for 40-50 years
I remember Fender advertised/shared that RSD bridge pretty heavily at one point on a few Custom Shop jobs - but apparently nothing came of it. That's a gorgeous guitar, not sure I'd be able to resist; how does the bridge work out for you?
So far I like the bridge, it feels more like a vintage Tele bridge than a Jazzmaster or Mustang bridge. I'm not sure, but I dont think it rocks with the tremolo. When I went to Sweetwater, I was already trying everything I could to talk myself out of buying it, but once I saw the 2-day sale price for Gearfest, all of my arguments went out the window.
It didn't help that a few weeks ago my best friend, who was the lead guitarist in my old band, bought an awesome Custom Shop Relic '51 Nocaster. That got me super jealous and gassing hard for a Custom Shop.
Hah. Out of curiosity, is intonation fixed or adjustable on these? If they're really non-adjustable, that might be why they only ever wanted to have them installed with CS-monitoring and not in regular prod.

They're not fully adjustable since there's only two saddles, but what looks like the height adjustment screws on a normal saddle are what you'd use. It looks like when you loosen those it unclamps the saddle so you can move it around on the base plate of the bridge, then height adjustment is just like a T-O-M or vintage Mustang bridge.
