NGD - Old school 80s Shredder

This guitar was quite the find, well sorta. It fell into my lap. I bought it from my buddy for $200. Story behind it, from what I'm aware, it was assembled in the 80s. My buddy picked it up from Sam Ash a few years ago. Had to get rid of it, and he's glad it got a good home with me. Alder body, maple neck, original Floyd, high output pickups. Not sure what exactly they are, could be Gibsons. They have a nice low end with very pronounced and clear highs and are very articulate, picking up every nuance. Body is painted navy blue with a metallic purple ghost flame. I will give her a proper set up with 10s, and will add an EVH D-Tuna. No matter how hard you hammer on the Floyd, it stays in tune pretty well. Neck is perfect for me, heel is contoured for easy upper fret access. It rips and shreds, does everything really well, and haven't picked anything else up since I got it a couple of days ago. So, what do you all think?

Edit: According to most who have commented, it is not from the 80's. Instead it's most likely a Warmoth build. The title should say something along the lines of 80's-Style Hair Metal Shredder Super-Strat. It really nails those types of style bang on.

Looks like a Warmoth neck. I see the truss rod adjustment there on the side. I really like the necks that I got from Warmoth. If you got that and it has the OFR from Germany, you got it at a great price no matter what pickups you have in there.

Cool. But it needs a splash of purple on the headstock to tie it all together,

Looks nice!! Especially for 200$!

Hi!! Welcome back!!

Actually, when did you come back? Been lookin'

Hi my little mystical pony. I wont be answering any questions until someone notices whats different about my stats on the left there. :bandit:

Ok now back to that guitar. Some purple washers on the machine heads would be damn cool.

I don't know, your age maybe? :?:

Re: NGD - Old school 80s Shredder

Warmoth side-adjuster was not introduced until recently (2005?), so not an 80s build.

As well, that type of trem recess did not appear until the 90s (first one in the 80s was Vai's JEM Lion Claw style), and that deep heel scallop until later (Ibanez' AANJ was not as rounded or as big).

Control cavity plate is styled after the Jackson Ontario shape, but recessed like a Jackson, and the trem cavity cover is not recessed.

80s OFR would have a screw-in bar and slot-head wood screw pivots, not hex-head inserts. Could still be German, though.

So I say it looks more like a late 90s/early-mid 2000s Warmoth.

Still, for $200, unless it's got major issues like a warped neck or improperly located bridge posts, you got a deal.

Alright, all that info is good to know. I appreciate it, DrNewcenstein. It plays amazingly well, feels great in my hands and sounds pretty damn good. Those are usually my criteria for buying a good instrument. Definitely covers a lot of 80s hair metal shred and goes into early EVH territory for sure.

Re: NGD - Old school 80s Shredder

Well, a Floyd, double HB and not least of all, purplish hued blue (my personal favorite), a winner in my book!!!

Enjoy her in good health :headbang:

The AANJ is the completely rounded, uses only 4 bolts neck joint from ibanez. Like this

latest

the tilt joint was the bigger blockier one used on like rg750's and 550's, where Jems used a more jackson like half moon cutaway heel.

Re: NGD - Old school 80s Shredder

Based on what you said - it sounds like a player!

Clean, lean, and mean.

Re: NGD - Old school 80s Shredder

Great deal at $200. Interesting neck heal as already mentioned.
