NGD! One Great Reason To Sell Your Les Paul Standard...

because you can buy three of these :) This is a "Gibson Les Paul Studio Pro Worn." It's chambered mahogany, maple cap, and a sweet stained satin finish, 50's neck, and it comes loaded with nickel covered Burstbucker Pros. I picked the heaviest one they had. I have an Ebony Les Paul Standard which weighs the same and has the same pickups.

I have been comparing these since I got this guitar and I cannot tell any difference in tone in practice or recorded. This guitar plays smooth and the neck is very comfortable. It's not slick like my Standard but I think it will smooth out over time.

Now I am seriously contemplating selling my Standard and buying two or three more of these and putting different pickups in all of them. I get exactly the same tone and the only differences really being cosmetic and that the Standard feels more luxurious in my hands, oh yeah, and the locking tuners on my standard are cool.

I got this one for $700 new. There is no better guitar value around period - don't even try to argue. USA made, Burstbucker Pros, etc... Check out the nice figure of the maple top noticeable through the stained finish. It doesn't stand out like a clear coated top, but the subtlety of it is very appealing when you have it in your hands. I cannot find a single flaw in this guitar. Everything is constructed perfectly.

However, all of this being said, weight-relieved Les Pauls are still a little better in my opinion. When it comes to recording and playing live, the weight-relief isn't anything you will ever notice in tone, but I think it has a softer, less dynamic tone than chambered. Also, since a chambered guitar is acoustically louder, it's harder to get a low volume recording without picking up string noise. The chambering does seem to help the sustain, but it's less nasal than weight-relieved which is a quality I like about Les Pauls.

Anyway it's hard to think of better reasons to keep my Standard than sell it and buy more of these. I want to get another one in the red finish and put some Seth Lovers in it.

Re: NGD! One Great Reason To Sell Your Les Paul Standard...

I wanna sell my Les Paul Trad (maybe pro or something, I'm not sure) but my Dad's friend/uncle bought it for me and I don't wanna piss him off because he's very supportive of my music and he helps me out whenever I need it. He got it for me for graduation and I never use it. I graduated like 2 years ago and have never played it in a show. I think the money would be well suited for more reasonable purchases.

It's not a good idea to sell that. First of all, it's a gift. The fact that he's not a blood relative and give you a very expensive guitar is enough reason to keep it always out of honor. Second, Les Pauls will not get any cheaper and if you have a Traditional then you can't do better than that unless you get an expensive historic or something.

The only reason I'm considering selling my Standard is because it's chambered and sounds exactly the same as my new Studio, and the only reason I bought the Standard is because I wanted another Les Paul to accompany my Traditional. However, I prefer weight-relieved so I'll never sell my Trad, but I'll let my Standard go for a few of these babies.

Actually, Gibson is offering a Studio Pro model now that is weight-relieved and they're only $1399 MSRP so that is surely something I'm going to look into.

One of the best things about it is there is no neck binding...I hate Gibson's neck binding.

Very nice guitar. Especially for $700. Can't beat that.

Re: NGD! One Great Reason To Sell Your Les Paul Standard...

That is HOT!

Definitely my kinda LP.

Get more!

Congrats. :D

I actually love the binding on Gibsons. I like the way it looks and it feels more luxurious in my hands. It's also easier to see the little fretboard dots like if you're in a dark gig. However, it doesn't bother me a whole lot to not have it either. I have an Ibanez Prestige that is identical to another Ibanez Prestige I have and the main difference is neck binding. The one with binding is very slick to play, but I actually prefer the non-bound Prestige.

I remember a guy on the LPF a few years ago bought the red one (I like the brown way better) and just put an engraved pickguard on it. It then looked about a zillion times better. Simple yet very very classy.

Congrats!

I don't know about an engraved pick guard, but I think some uncovered zebra humbuckers would look good on this guitar. I'm definitely getting the red one because with a price like that, you just can't have one without the other.

Re: NGD! One Great Reason To Sell Your Les Paul Standard...

I have recently fantasized about selling my 73 LP and buying like 6 Dean's....maybe an Epiphone or two.

I love those LP's - nice choice.

You'd have to see the pic but still, it might not fit with a screen-name like metal-maniac (it had flowers on it!).

Yep, that would be a nice matched pair (oh yeah, I really meant that)...

What's the difference between the Faded Studio and the Pro? I have a Brown Studio Faded that I put the PG/CC set in that I traded you my BB Pro's for.

That's a heck of a deal for $700.

Maybe contact Brandon if you do, his had a little mishap being too close to a heat source

I personally can't see ever selling my Les Paul's, especially this one which has to be the best playing/feeling guitar I have ever owned out of several hundred since I started palying back in the mid 70s. The neck binding just enhances the enjoyment of playing, slick as snot and effortless. It's a 2001 rare dual burst with dark back and burst at the heel. Basically a Slash w/o the piezo

OP, that's a nice looking guitar but I will stick with my Standards. I would consider buying one though as they are very easy on the eyes but the 50s neck would be the deal breaker for me

Selling one piece of crap and buying 6 other pieces of crap.........Priceless. For everything else, there's MasterCard.

Sleling a high-end guitar to purchase a plethora of low-end guitars? Meh, maybe if smashing 'em was part of the show.
